VALORANT is a free-to-play 5v5 tactical shooter developed and published by Riot Games. In the main Spike mode, one team attacks and tries to plant the Spike while the other defends the sites and attempts to defuse it. Teams switch sides during the match, and each player has one life per round.

The round economy shapes every decision. Players buy weapons, armor, and abilities with credits earned from previous rounds, so a team may need to save, force a weaker purchase, or spend for a full setup. Accurate shooting remains central, but Agent abilities can create space, gather information, block sightlines, deny movement, or support a push.

Agents are grouped around different tactical roles, and each has a distinct ability kit. Maps add another layer of planning through lanes, sites, doors, teleporters, ropes, elevation, and other features that affect how teams take and retake space.

VALORANT includes Competitive and Unrated matches, along with shorter or alternate modes such as Deathmatch and Spike Rush. Riot continues to update the game with new Agents, maps, balance changes, seasonal Acts, and limited-time modes. The game is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with platform features and mode availability varying by version. Players can also learn maps, study callouts, refine crosshair and sensitivity settings, and build a round plan around their chosen Agent.
