Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play PvP shooter focused on coordinated six-player teams. Each match asks players to choose a Marvel hero or villain whose abilities fit one of three roles: Vanguard, Duelist, or Strategist. The three classes give teams different tools for frontline pressure, damage, movement, healing, protection, and control. A strong team balances those jobs while adapting to the map and the opposing lineup.

The main loop is direct: select a hero, join a match, use movement and abilities to win fights, and complete the mode's objective before the other team. Domination centers on contested areas, while Convoy and Convergence use attack-and-defense objectives that move teams through a map. Quick Match and Competitive play provide different levels of structure, and Arcade options add alternate rules. Hero choices are not only about individual damage. Team composition, ultimate timing, flank routes, defensive cooldowns, and the way a roster interacts with the objective determine how a round develops.

Team-Up Abilities let specific heroes combine powers for additional effects, creating a layer of roster planning beyond ordinary hero selection. Maps also use environmental destruction: attacks can break selected structures, open routes, or create cover while important spaces remain readable for combat. The roster, maps, balance, events, and Team-Up systems change through seasonal updates, giving the game an ongoing competitive structure.

Season 10 maintenance is scheduled to begin on September 11, 2026, at 09:00 UTC, with an estimated two-hour downtime. The announced update adds Gorr the God Butcher and reworks Scarlet Witch’s abilities. Some achievement names and requirements will also change; the developer says existing progress and completed achievements will carry over.

The role guide below explains Vanguard, Duelist, and Strategist positioning. The hero rankings, counters, team compositions, and Team-Up lists are labeled Season 9; treat those as Season 9 advice rather than confirmed Season 10 recommendations. Open the Guide Hub for the full set of guides.

Marvel Rivals is available on Windows PC through Steam, Epic Games Store, and the official Loading Bay, plus PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Cross-play connects players on supported platforms.
