Way of the Hunter 2 - Console Release Date Trailer
THQ Nordic
The official trailer confirms the September 29 full release and console debut.
Way of the Hunter 2 has already been available on PC in Early Access since March, but its full launch is now set. The hunting sim reaches version 1.0 on September 29, 2026, which is also the day it arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
That split release can make the current store listings look more confusing than they need to be. PC players can buy and play an unfinished version today. Console players are preordering the completed launch edition for September. The prices are different, the Deluxe Edition includes a Season Pass, and there is a preorder pack for anyone who wants a little extra gear waiting at the lodge.
Here is what each version includes, how multiplayer fits into the launch, and whether buying now makes sense.

When does Way of the Hunter 2 fully release?
Way of the Hunter 2 launches in full on September 29, 2026, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Developer Nine Rocks Games first released the PC version through Steam Early Access on March 26, giving players about six months with the game before version 1.0.
The important distinction is that September 29 is not a delayed PC debut. It is the move out of Early Access and the first release on consoles. If you buy the Steam version now, you can play immediately. If you preorder on PS5 or Xbox, you are waiting for the September launch.
The Deluxe Edition promises 24-hour early access. Store listings do not currently give a separate timestamp for that access, so the safest reading is simply that Deluxe buyers can start one day before the Standard Edition unlocks.
The confirmed platforms are PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. There are no announced PS4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch 2 versions.
This is a current-generation console release, which makes sense for a game built around large reserves, long sightlines, detailed animal behavior, and a more demanding ecosystem simulation. The official PC requirements also start at Windows 11, 16GB of RAM, and a GeForce RTX 2060 or Radeon RX 5600 XT.
Anyone on older hardware should avoid treating an unannounced port as inevitable. Nine Rocks Games and THQ Nordic may expand the platform list later, but only PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S are confirmed for now.
Way of the Hunter 2 price
The PS5 Standard Edition costs $39.99, while the Deluxe Edition costs $59.99 in the US PlayStation Store. The PC Early Access build is currently $34.99 on Steam.
Steam warns that the price will increase during Early Access, so the current PC price should not be assumed to remain in place through September. Console pricing can also differ by region, and the Xbox store may use its own local pricing.
Owners of the first Way of the Hunter receive a 10% discount on the PlayStation Store listing. Check the final total while signed into the account that owns the original game, because the discount is tied to that ownership.
Standard Edition vs Deluxe Edition
The Standard Edition is the cleaner choice if you mainly want the full game. The Deluxe Edition adds the Season Pass and one day of early access.
Standard Edition includes
Way of the Hunter 2
Heirloom Pack preorder DLC
10% PlayStation Store discount for owners of the first Way of the Hunter
Deluxe Edition includes
Way of the Hunter 2
Season Pass
Heirloom Pack preorder DLC
24-hour early access
10% PlayStation Store discount for owners of the first Way of the Hunter
The $20 gap is really a Season Pass decision. One day of early access is a small bonus in a slow, patient hunting game, so it should not be the main reason to upgrade. Deluxe makes more sense for someone who already expects to stay with the game after launch and wants its planned post-release content.
The store does not yet explain every individual item in the Season Pass. If you want to know exactly how many maps, animals, or equipment packs it contains, waiting for a full roadmap is the safer move.
What is in the Heirloom Pack preorder bonus?
Preordering either console edition includes the Heirloom Pack. It contains two rifles, a matching scope setup, and a lodge decoration:
A classic rifle with metal engravings inspired by stories from the first Way of the Hunter
A classic scope with decorated mounting rings
A modern hunting rifle with a plastic frame
An animal-themed fountain placed in front of the main hunting lodge
This is more useful than a purely cosmetic character skin, but it is still optional bonus content. The official listing does not say that these weapons are required for any animal, mission, or trophy. Players who prefer to wait for reviews are not being locked out of the core hunting experience.
What changes with the version 1.0 launch?
Kilimaya Reserve adds a 100 km² African hunting ground with lions, hippos, Cape buffalo, and Nile crocodiles. Image: Nine Rocks Games and THQ Nordic.
The Early Access build began with New Laurentia, a Canadian hunting ground, a tutorial, rifles, shotguns, bows, calls, a hunting dog, optics, a monopod, decoys, blinds, a vehicle, and tents used for fast travel and changing the time.
Since then, the game has already expanded. Kilimaya Reserve added a 100 km² African map with animals including lions, hippos, Cape buffalo, and Nile crocodiles. Updates have also introduced ecosystem management, suppressors, thermal optics, and other systems that push the game beyond simply following tracks and taking a shot.
For the full version, Nine Rocks Games says it plans multiple hunting grounds, story missions, several multiplayer modes, more high-tech and traditional equipment, broader customization, more languages, and equipment from over ten real-world brands.
The two headline environments are very different. New Laurentia focuses on Canadian wilderness and animals such as moose, elk, bears, bison, rabbits, and turkeys. Kilimaya is built around long-range tracking across an African reserve where large predators and aggressive herbivores can make a careless approach much more dangerous.
How does the hunting dog work?
The hunting dog can find animal signs, follow blood trails, and improve through training. Image: Nine Rocks Games and THQ Nordic.
The dog is not just there for screenshots. It can search for animal signs, follow blood trails, and help locate wounded animals. Regular exercise and training improve its ability over time.
That should be especially useful for new players learning how shot placement, caliber, distance, and animal movement affect a hunt. A bad hit can turn into a long search through brush or uneven ground. Having a companion that helps recover the trail gives you another way to understand what happened instead of wandering in circles.
The improved Shot Review serves a similar purpose. It shows trajectory, speed, angle, and placement after a shot. Players who enjoy the tracking and trophy side of Red Dead Redemption 2's Legendary Animals will recognize the appeal, but Way of the Hunter 2 makes that process the center of the game rather than a side activity.
What can you do at the hunting lodge?
Each map has its own lodge. It acts as a planning hub where you can prepare hunts, display trophies, and unlock upgrades. The upgraded taxidermy system supports wall mounts and floor displays, while the new trophy system reflects an animal's age, fitness, sex, maturity, and natural variation.
Rare non-typical trophies add a reason to keep watching herds instead of treating every large animal as interchangeable. Herd management also lets your choices influence the fitness and value of future populations. If you remove the wrong animals too aggressively, you are changing the reserve rather than clearing a static checklist.
There is practical work around the maps too. Players can repair bridges, maintain feeders, restore habitats, remove pollution, and deal with invasive species. Those jobs give the open world a bit more structure between hunts and make the reserves feel like places you are responsible for, not just scenery.
Does Way of the Hunter 2 have multiplayer?
The PS5 listing supports up to four online players and says PlayStation Plus is required for online play. The Steam page still labels the current Early Access build as single-player, while the developer says several multiplayer modes are planned for the full version.
In other words, do not buy the current PC build assuming every launch multiplayer feature is already active. The September version is the milestone to watch for the complete multiplayer rollout. Cross-platform play has not been officially confirmed, so players on different systems should not plan around crossplay yet.
The Way of the Hunter 2 game page will track the confirmed platforms, release information, trailers, and major feature updates as launch gets closer.
Way of the Hunter 2 PC requirements
The current minimum PC target is Windows 11, a Ryzen 5 3600X or Core i5-9600K, 16GB of RAM, an RTX 2060 or Radeon RX 5600 XT, DirectX 12, and 30GB of storage.
Recommended specifications raise the processor to a Ryzen 5 7600X or Core i5-14600K and the graphics card to an RTX 4060 Ti or Radeon RX 7600 XT. Memory and storage remain at 16GB and 30GB.
These requirements can still change before version 1.0. If your PC is close to the minimum, wait for final requirements and launch performance reports instead of treating the Early Access list as permanent.
Should you buy Way of the Hunter 2 now or wait?
Buy the PC Early Access version now if you are comfortable with unfinished systems, want the lower current price, and like giving feedback while the game develops. There is already a substantial amount to explore across New Laurentia and Kilimaya, but the Steam warning is clear: Early Access games can change, and some planned features are not complete.
Wait for September if multiplayer is your priority, you want the finished progression loop, or you would rather see how version 1.0 performs. Console players do not have an earlier playable option anyway.
For preorders, Standard is enough for most people. Deluxe is for players who specifically want the Season Pass and expect to keep returning after the base reserves are familiar. Until the full DLC roadmap is public, there is no need to spend the extra $20 just because the edition says “Deluxe.”
