Twitch has added a setting that allows channel content to be used for training generative AI models at Amazon. Streamers should check it themselves, because users have reported seeing different results when they open the page.
Some accounts showed the option enabled. Others found it disabled without changing it first. That makes the widely repeated claim that every channel was turned on too broad. The useful advice is much simpler: open your settings and confirm what your own account says.
How to find the setting
Use a desktop browser if the option is missing from the Twitch mobile app.
- Log in to Twitch.
- Open Settings, then Security and Privacy.
- Scroll to Opt-out Preferences.
- Find Training for Generative AI.
- If the switch is on and you do not want to allow training, turn it off.
- Refresh the page and check that the setting stayed off.
Twitch labels the control: ‘Allow your channel content to train generative AI content models at Amazon.’ The label is the clearest way to know you are changing the correct option.
What Twitch says can be used
According to the official Twitch help page, eligible channel content includes streams, VODs, clips, highlights, stream chat, and text or images shown on a channel.
Chat has an extra complication. If you write in someone else's stream, that channel owner's choice controls whether the chat can be used for this training. Turning the setting off on your own channel does not control another streamer's chat.
What turning it off changes
Twitch says opting out prevents your channel content from being used in future training for Amazon models that generate or synthesize text, audio, images, or video.
