Overwatch is taking Sombra out of the Damage role and rebuilding her as a Support hero. Blizzard confirmed the change at BlizzCon 2026, and the rework arrives with Season 5 on October 6.
Blizzard has not shown Sombra’s new abilities yet. Her stealth, hacking, and disruption could fit the Support role in several ways, but there is no confirmed healing ability or complete kit to study.
When does Support Sombra arrive?
Support Sombra launches with Overwatch Season 5 on October 6. Roadhog will receive a major rework in the same update, although he will remain a Tank.
The current Overwatch Season 4 patch notes cover smaller hero adjustments across the roster. Moving Sombra into a different role changes her queue, her place in a team, and what players will expect her to do during a match.
Will Support Sombra be a healer?
Blizzard has not said. Overwatch Supports do not all work the same way: some restore health directly, while others protect teammates, increase damage, improve movement, or weaken the enemy team.
Sombra already controls fights through hacked targets and information. Blizzard could build her Support kit around those tools without turning her machine pistol into a healing weapon. Any exact ability list circulating before the full reveal is speculation.
Did Blizzard already test a Support version of Sombra?
Mirrorwatch gave players a temporary version of Sombra called Agent Colomar in 2024. Her Hack could target allies, granting them attack speed and overhealth. Her altered EMP also gave health and increased attack speed to Sombra and nearby teammates.
Those abilities show how hacking can help a team instead of only disabling opponents. Blizzard has not said that the Mirrorwatch kit will return, so players should not treat it as the confirmed Season 5 design.
How will the role change affect Sombra players?
Sombra entered Overwatch in 2016 as an offensive flanker. Her previous reworks changed Stealth, Translocator, Virus, and Hack, but players could still select her from the Damage roster. Season 5 moves her to another queue entirely.
Damage players who main Sombra will have to queue for Support to keep using her. Support players will gain a hero built around stealth and disruption, two tools that are unusual in that role. The final ability kit will decide whether she can still leave her team to chase isolated targets or needs to stay close to allies.
What else is coming in Overwatch Season 5?
Doctrine, a vampire-inspired Support hero allied with Doomfist, will officially join the roster in Season 5 after his current trial ends September 14. The update also adds Watchpoint: Grímsvötn, an Escort map set inside an Icelandic volcano prison, and closes the Reign of Talon story arc.
