Season 1: The Royal Merchant Gold

Big John Routledge spends years researching the Royal Merchant, a ship said in the series to have sunk near the Outer Banks with a fortune in gold. His disappearance gives John B a personal reason to finish the search.
The first clues come from a compass, a ship manifest, and documents connected to Denmark Tanny. John B and Sarah learn that Tanny survived the wreck and brought the gold ashore. A letter leads them to a well beneath an old house, where they find the treasure.
Ward Cameron had worked with Big John on the same search. Their partnership ended when Big John refused the equal share Ward wanted. Ward left him for dead, then later overheard John B and Sarah discussing the discovery. He removed the gold from the well and sent it to the Cameron property in Nassau.

Season 2: The Cross of Santo Domingo

The Nassau attempt does not return the Royal Merchant gold to the Pogues. Back in the United States, a second artifact puts Pope at the center of the hunt.
Pope learns that Denmark Tanny is his ancestor. A key preserved through the family line is said to lead to the Cross of Santo Domingo. In the show's fictional history, the Cross was a valuable artifact carried aboard the Royal Merchant. It was also rumored to contain the Garment of the Savior, a relic Carla Limbrey believes can heal her.
The Pogues decode a message and find the Cross hidden in the ceiling of a church. They cannot keep it. Rafe and Renfield take it, and Rafe ultimately brings it back to the Cameron side of the conflict. Ward escapes aboard the Coastal Venture with both the Cross and Royal Merchant gold.
The Pogues board the ship and nearly pull the Cross away, but Rafe prevents them from taking it. The group escapes without either treasure and lands on Poguelandia.

Season 3: The Gnomon and El Dorado

Carlos Singh wants to find El Dorado. He believes Denmark Tanny knew the route because, in the show's lore, the Cross had previously traveled on a ship connected to the city of gold. Big John also has part of the object needed to locate it. The Pogues try once more to recover the Cross, but Rafe uses a decoy and melts the real artifact into gold bars.
The key device is the Gnomon of Solana. Once its pieces are reunited, it can be positioned at the correct place and time to project the symbols that point toward El Dorado. Big John, John B, Sarah, and the Pogues follow the clues into the Orinoco Basin.
Big John is shot before the final discovery but continues helping John B and Sarah. The pair solves the darkness clue, enters the cave, and finds El Dorado. They take a bag of gold rather than removing the city's full treasure.
Singh dies in an explosion that seals the entrance. Ward dies protecting Sarah from another attacker. Big John dies from his wound after seeing proof that his search was correct.

After the El Dorado expedition, a man approaches the Pogues with a captain's log said to belong to Blackbeard. That log introduces a new chain of clues rather than extending the physical El Dorado treasure.
Wes Genrette later hires the group to recover an amulet from Blackbeard's ship, The Adventure. He believes the mission can address a curse connected to Elizabeth, Blackbeard's wife in the series story. The Pogues accept the dive and find the amulet inside a hidden lockbox.
An inscription inside the amulet directs them toward Charleston. Lightner and Dalia, members of the Lupine Corsairs, are pursuing the same trail. The amulet opens the way into a crypt where the mercenaries recover a scroll.
Season 4: The Mogador Scroll and Blue Crown
Spoiler warning — Season 4 hunt: This section reveals JJ's parentage, the Crown's location, and JJ's death.
The scroll is identified as the Mogador Scroll, a map created in the show's lore by a Barbary pirate. Blackbeard left it for Elizabeth, but reading it requires a special lens. That lens is buried with Larissa Genrette, JJ's biological mother.
Groff uses his connection to Larissa and JJ to get close to both the lens and the Scroll. After the encrypted map is decoded, it points to Essaouira, Morocco, and the city of Agapenta.
The object at the end is the Blue Crown. Within the series, stories say the Crown grants wishes, favor, and invincibility. Groff dismisses the supernatural promise but wants its monetary value. Kiara, grieving JJ, later wants to test the promise directly.
In Morocco, the Pogues use photographs and translations from the Scroll to find the Crown inside a statue. JJ retrieves it. Groff takes Kiara hostage, and JJ exchanges the Crown for her life. Groff kills JJ after receiving it and escapes.

The final hunt brings the series back to its first treasure. Groff gets the Royal Merchant gold and attempts to escape with it during Hurricane Cassandra. Kiara confronts him, and he sinks after she cuts the rope supporting the mast he is holding.
The Pogues recover the gold. They use the money to buy back property: John B restores the Chateau, Kiara buys the old Maybank land, and Pope rebuilds Heyward's Seafood. Pope also receives Tannyhill as a home for himself and Cleo.
Kiara also gets access to the Blue Crown. She hopes its supposed power can bring JJ back. It does not physically resurrect him. Her memories give her a farewell, and the Corsairs leave with the Crown.

Yes, through the show's fictional chain of ships and records, but the Royal Merchant gold is not the El Dorado treasure.
Denmark Tanny survives the Royal Merchant and becomes part of Pope's family history. The Cross of Santo Domingo was also aboard the ship. Season 3 explains that the Cross had earlier been carried by another vessel connected to El Dorado, which is why Tanny's records matter to Singh's search.
The physical treasures remain distinct: the Royal Merchant gold, the Cross, and the El Dorado gold are separate prizes.
Does the Blue Crown Really Have Powers?
Spoiler warning — Blue Crown outcome: This section reveals whether JJ returns and who leaves with the Crown.
The series leaves room for belief but does not show the Crown literally reversing JJ's death. Characters repeat stories that it can grant wishes and protect its wearer. Groff treats those stories as mythology surrounding a valuable artifact.
Kiara's Season 5 experience is emotional rather than a confirmed resurrection. JJ remains dead, and the Crown leaves with the Corsairs. The finale therefore does not establish it as a reliable magical device.
What Treasure Do the Pogues Keep?

The final answer is the Royal Merchant gold. The Pogues return from El Dorado with a bag of gold, but JJ later bets the group's remaining share on the Kildare Enduro and loses it. Season 5's recovery of the Royal Merchant fortune lets them buy back land and rebuild specific homes and businesses.
The series ends with the first treasure funding the places the Pogues return to: the Chateau, the Maybank property, Heyward's Seafood, and Tannyhill. The gold is the final recovery; the Blue Crown remains with the Corsairs.
