The Main Pogues

John B Routledge — Chase Stokes
Spoiler warning — John B's outcome: This section reveals family crimes, his survival, marriage, and child.
John B is the narrator and original leader of the Pogues. He grows up in the Cut and lives at the Chateau after his father, Big John, disappears. Big John's search for the Royal Merchant becomes John B's search, pulling JJ, Pope, and Kiara into the first treasure hunt.
John B falls in love with Sarah Cameron even though her family belongs to the wealthy Figure 8 side of Kildare. Ward frames him for Sheriff Peterkin's murder, but John B survives the resulting escape and continues chasing the truth about his father. His strengths are loyalty and persistence. His weakness is that he can repeat Big John's habit of letting the next clue consume everything else.
Final status: John B survives. He and Sarah become parents, marry in Kildare, and name their daughter JJ. The recovered Royal Merchant gold helps the group rebuild its home.
Sarah Cameron — Madelyn Cline
Spoiler warning — Sarah's outcome: This section reveals deaths in her family, her survival, marriage, and child.
Sarah begins the series as a Kook living at Tannyhill with Ward, Rafe, Wheezie, and Rose. She is dating Topper when John B asks for her help with the Royal Merchant clues. Sarah chooses John B, leaves her protected Figure 8 life, and becomes part of the Pogues.
Her family remains one of the show's largest sources of danger. Ward steals the Royal Merchant gold and covers for Rafe after Peterkin's death. Sarah repeatedly faces the fact that loving her family does not make them safe. Her relationship with Rafe slowly changes after Ward sacrifices himself to save her in Season 3.
Final status: Sarah survives, has a daughter with John B, and marries him. Their child is named for JJ.
Kiara “Kie” Carrera — Madison Bailey
Spoiler warning — Kiara's outcome: This section reveals JJ's fate and Kiara's final path.
Kiara lives in Figure 8 but identifies with the Pogues. Her parents want her to accept the stability and status available to her, while Kiara wants a life built around her friends, the ocean, and environmental work.
She is often the person who challenges the group when a hunt becomes reckless. Her friendship with JJ develops into a romance in Season 3. In Season 4, she supports him through the truth about his family and watches Groff kill him after JJ trades the Blue Crown for her safety.
Final status: Kiara survives, confronts Groff during Hurricane Cassandra, and begins a marine-biology internship. The Blue Crown does not bring JJ back, but her experience with it lets her say goodbye.
Pope Heyward — Jonathan Daviss

Pope is the careful planner in a group that rarely chooses the careful plan. His academic future initially gives him the most obvious path away from the Cut, but he repeatedly risks it to stay with his friends.
Season 2 makes Pope central to the treasure story. He learns that Denmark Tanny, the sole Royal Merchant survivor in the show's history, is his ancestor. That connection leads to the Cross of Santo Domingo. Pope's knowledge also helps decode later clues, including the path toward the Blue Crown.
Final status: Pope survives. He travels to the Bahamas and proposes to Cleo again; she accepts and later returns to the United States with a naturalization certificate.
Cleo — Carlacia Grant
Spoiler warning — Cleo's outcome: This section reveals a death close to Cleo and her final relationship status.
Cleo meets John B and Sarah aboard a cargo ship headed to Nassau in Season 2. She initially works with the crew that plans to turn them in, but she helps them escape. By Season 3, she is living with the Heyward family and has become a Pogue.
Cleo is practical, observant, and comfortable surviving without the resources most of the group once took for granted. Her relationship with Pope develops after she stops him from acting on revenge against Rafe. Season 4 puts her through another loss when Lightner kills Terrance, the father figure she knew from Nassau.
Final status: Cleo survives. Pope proposes to her again in the Bahamas, she accepts, and she becomes a naturalized U.S. citizen.
JJ Maybank — Rudy Pankow
Spoiler warning — JJ's identity and fate: This section reveals JJ's biological parents, death, and Season 5 legacy.
JJ is John B's oldest friend and the most impulsive Pogue. He covers fear with jokes, dares, and decisions that can put the whole group at risk. His volatile relationship with Luke Maybank helps explain why the Pogues are his real family long before the series says it directly.
JJ and Kiara become a couple after he rescues her from the wilderness camp in Season 3. Season 4 reveals that Luke is not his biological father. JJ's parents are Larissa Genrette and Chandler Groff. Groff uses that truth to get closer to the Mogador Scroll and Blue Crown.
Final status: JJ dies in the Season 4 finale. He gives Groff the Blue Crown to save Kiara, and Groff stabs him. JJ does not physically return in Season 5. His friends honor him in the lives they build, and John B and Sarah give his name to their daughter.
The Camerons and Other Kooks

Rafe Cameron — Drew Starkey
Spoiler warning — Rafe's outcome: This section reveals his killings, alliances, and final relationship status.
Rafe is Sarah's older brother and one of the group's most dangerous recurring opponents. He kills Sheriff Peterkin in Season 1, helps Ward keep the Royal Merchant gold, and takes the Cross of Santo Domingo from the Pogues. His need for Ward's approval drives many of his worst choices.
Rafe is not converted into a Pogue, but later seasons make him more complicated. He begins dating Sofia, starts repairing his relationship with Sarah, and joins the Pogues in Morocco when their interests align against Groff and the Corsairs.
Final status: Rafe survives. He and Sofia leave Kildare by boat after Shoupe lets them go, and Rafe joins John B and Sarah's wedding by FaceTime.
Sofia — Fiona Palomo
Spoiler warning — Sofia's outcome: This section reveals a betrayal, broken engagement, and final destination.
Sofia works catering and bartending jobs and comes from outside Rafe's usual Kook circle. They begin a relationship in Season 3. In Season 4, Sofia pushes Rafe into a development deal after hearing him deny that he would date a Pogue. She accepts his proposal without telling him about the scheme, and he ends their engagement when he learns the truth.
Final status: Sofia survives and leaves Kildare with Rafe after the final hunt.
Topper Thornton — Austin North
Spoiler warning — Topper's relationship story: This section reveals how his relationship with Sarah ends.
Topper is Sarah's boyfriend at the beginning of Season 1. He is a Kook, a frequent rival to John B, and sometimes an unexpected source of help. Sarah returns to him briefly when her relationship with John B breaks down in Season 3, but she ultimately chooses John B. Topper's anger then escalates into burning John B's house.
By Season 4, Topper is dating Ruthie, though he remains tied to the Kook-Pogue conflict.
Ward Cameron — Charles Esten
Spoiler warning — Ward's crimes and fate: This section reveals murders, betrayals, and Ward's death.
Ward is Sarah, Rafe, and Wheezie's father. He presents himself as a successful Figure 8 businessman, but the Royal Merchant story exposes his crimes. He leaves Big John for dead after a fight over the gold, steals the treasure, protects Rafe, and frames John B.
Final status: Ward dies in Season 3 when he sacrifices himself to save Sarah during the escape from El Dorado.
Parents, Villains, and Law Enforcement

Big John Routledge — Charles Halford
Spoiler warning — Big John's fate: This section reveals his survival after disappearing and his later death.
Big John's disappearance starts the series. Ward leaves him for dead after their dispute, but he survives and reunites with John B in Season 3. The reunion shows how much his obsession has cost his son.
Final status: Big John dies from a gunshot wound after helping John B and Sarah reach El Dorado.
Chandler Groff — J. Anthony Crane
Spoiler warning — Groff's identity and fate: This section reveals his family connection to JJ, murders, betrayals, and final outcome.
Groff is a con man tied to the Lupine Corsairs and JJ's biological father. He married Larissa Genrette, killed her, and later returns to the Genrette story because it can lead him to the Blue Crown. He repeatedly betrays JJ, the Pogues, and the Corsairs.
Final status: Groff kills JJ in Season 4, steals the Royal Merchant gold in Season 5, and sinks after Kiara brings down the mast he is holding during Hurricane Cassandra.
Dalia — Pollyanna McIntosh
Spoiler warning — Dalia's hunt: This section reveals the result of the final Blue Crown chase.
Dalia leads the Corsairs pursuing Blackbeard's treasure. Her group hunts the amulet, Mogador Scroll, and Blue Crown, putting the Pogues and Groff in the same violent race. The Corsairs leave with the Crown at the end of the final hunt.
Sheriff Shoupe — Cullen Moss
Spoiler warning — Shoupe's role: This section refers to crimes and outcomes revealed across the full series.
Shoupe starts as a Kildare deputy, becomes sheriff, and investigates the crimes around the Pogues. He eventually recognizes Groff as the larger threat, lets the Pogues and Rafe pursue him, and later allows Rafe and Sofia to leave Kildare.
Who Is a Pogue?
Spoiler warning — final Pogue lineup: This section reveals which core character dies and who remains at the end.
“Pogue” begins as a class label for people from the Cut. Sarah leaves Figure 8 to join the group, and Cleo arrives from Nassau before becoming family. Rafe works with the Pogues when their goals align without becoming part of the core group.
The stable core is John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, Cleo, and JJ. JJ's death changes the lineup, but not his place in it.
