Modern Warfare 4 beta dates and times

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has two beta weekends. The first is the Early Access weekend, running from August 21 through August 25. The second is the Open Beta, running from August 28 through September 1.

The Early Access weekend begins after Call of Duty: NEXT on August 21. Activision has not posted a separate beta start time, but the NEXT broadcast is scheduled for 9 a.m. PT/12 p.m. ET. The company says players can enter the beta immediately after the event.

Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026. The beta is a preview of multiplayer content, with one campaign mission included as an unusual extra.

Who can play each weekend?

Weekend One is for players with Early Access on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox on PC, Battle.net, or Steam. You can secure that access by preordering or prepurchasing any edition of Modern Warfare 4 on one of those platforms.

Nintendo Switch 2 is not part of the first weekend. Switch 2 players can join Weekend Two, which is open to everyone and does not require a preorder. The Open Beta also opens the event to players on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox on PC, Battle.net, and Steam, regardless of whether they bought the game.

Modern Warfare 4 is not coming to Xbox One or PlayStation 4. A Game Pass subscription does not appear in Activision's beta instructions as a way to unlock Early Access, so players should use the preorder or code process for the platform they plan to use.

What is playable in the beta?

The first weekend combines multiplayer with the campaign mission “Entrenched.” This is the first time a Call of Duty beta has included playable campaign content, according to PC Gamer’s report on Activision’s announcement.

“Entrenched” takes place during the war on the Korean Peninsula. The preview follows South Korean marines and an embedded American soldier as they push through trenches, armored vehicles, and close-range fights. It is a slice of the campaign, not early access to the entire story.

Multiplayer will include several standard playlists alongside newer experiments. Activision has confirmed Search & Destroy, the new Kill Block experience, small 3v3 battles, larger 10v10 Gunfight matches, and the Training Mobility Course. Current beta coverage also lists Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, and Inflation.

Inflation is a new team mode built around cash pickups. Eliminating an opponent drops money, and the team with the most cash at the end wins. Kill Block is the more unusual addition: its modular slabs can change between rounds, altering routes, cover, and sightlines on the same battlefield.
