Minecraft Dungeons II launches September 29, 2026, on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. It is a new dungeon-crawling adventure, not an expansion for the first game. You can play alone or team up with friends.
What is new in the sequel?
The sequel adds new missions, enemies, areas and gear. You fight through Minecraft-style places from an overhead view, collect weapons and artifacts, and build a loadout that works for the next fight. The official screenshots show ruined villages, caves and large groups of hostile mobs.

Mojang has also shown the Illager High Council as a new threat. One part of the story takes the heroes to Japan after the council attacks there. The game still has the fast, easy-to-read combat that made the first Dungeons fun with a group, while adding more places and enemies to tackle.
Do you need to play the first game?
No. Minecraft says the sequel stands on its own. Returning players may recognize familiar weapons and creatures, but newcomers can jump into this story without finishing the original Minecraft Dungeons first. It is also separate from the main Minecraft game: you are fighting through missions, not building a survival world.

Where can you play it?
The confirmed platforms are Steam and Windows PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch and Switch 2. The Minecraft site has preorders open ahead of September 29. Check your platform store for the local launch time and price; those can differ by region.
Co-op lets you take on missions with friends. That is good news if you enjoyed clearing busy rooms together in the first game. The new screenshots show plenty of large fights, and the extra gear should give groups more ways to tackle them.
A bonus Hero Cape is tied to playing both Dungeons games on the same Microsoft account. That reward is optional; the first game is not required to play Dungeons II. If you only want the new adventure, you can start with the sequel on September 29.
