Fortnite's Item Shop is supposed to be the easy part of the game. You see an outfit you want, buy enough V-Bucks, and check out. In 2026, that purchase can make players compare pack sizes, top-up rates, rewards, gift-card balances, and platform limits before they know what the item will really cost.
Epic changed its V-Bucks pricing on March 19. The main pack prices stayed the same in the United States, but every pack now includes less currency. The Exact Amount option also became more expensive, while the shop still gives players no clear schedule for when many cosmetics will return.
V-Bucks Packs Now Give Players Less
Epic's official pricing page shows the change clearly. The $8.99 pack dropped from 1,000 V-Bucks to 800. The $22.99 pack went from 2,800 to 2,400, the $36.99 pack fell from 5,000 to 4,500, and the $89.99 pack now includes 12,500 instead of 13,500.
Players are paying the same dollar amount and receiving less. A bundle that once fit inside the 2,800 V-Buck pack may now require the 4,500 pack or another purchase to cover the difference.
The change also reached the Battle Pass and Fortnite Crew. The Battle Pass now costs 800 V-Bucks and gives back 800 when completed. The monthly Crew grant is moving from 1,000 to 800. Epic offers 20% back in Epic Rewards on eligible purchases through its own payment system, but that credit is used later and does not lower the first charge.
Exact Amount Can Cost Almost as Much as a Full Pack
The Exact Amount option lets players buy only the V-Bucks they are missing. That sounds useful, but the new rate can be poor value. Epic's table shows that 50 V-Bucks increased from about 50 cents to 99 cents, although regional prices can vary.
GameSpot used a 2,600 V-Buck bundle as an example. Buying that amount can cost $27 in the United States: $23 for the first 2,400 and another $4 for the final 200. Those last 200 V-Bucks are much more expensive per 100 than the main pack.
The difference becomes even clearer near the next standard tier. An Exact Amount purchase between 3,100 and 4,400 V-Bucks can cost $36.49, while the regular 4,500 pack costs $36.99. A player buying 3,600 saves only 50 cents but receives 900 fewer V-Bucks.
Gift Cards and Nintendo Add More Steps
Fortnite-specific V-Bucks cards were discontinued in 2025. The Fortnite gift cards sold now add credit to the Epic Games Store instead of placing a fixed amount of V-Bucks directly on an account. The cards come in dollar amounts such as $15, $30, $50, and $100, which do not match the current V-Bucks pack prices.
