Dancing with Ghosts will enter Steam Early Access on October 8. HumaNature Studios says the launch version already contains the complete story, including its ending, rather than a short opening chapter.
The hand-drawn narrative game follows 15-year-old Mai in a Thai river village. She has stopped dancing and pulled away from the people around her after a painful loss. Her routine changes when she meets Pim, a cheerful ghost who has forgotten most of her life but none of her energy.

Pim needs good karma to recover her memories. Mai earns it by helping neighbors, listening to their problems and completing small jobs around the village. As Pim learns who she was, Mai slowly reconnects with the dance her mother taught her.
The story is inspired by a Thai belief about dedicating good deeds to people who have died. HumaNature says the village was modeled on Bang Pa-In in Ayutthaya Province, where creator Greg Johnson’s Thai family is from. Thai artists illustrated and animated the game.
Johnson called it “a deliberately joyful experience.” The bright colors and jokes do not erase the story’s sadness. They give Mai and the player room to return to ordinary pleasures after loss.

Steam lists roughly six to eight hours of narrative play, with English and Thai voice work. Players choose how Mai answers people, but the game does not treat one response as the only correct choice. The focus is on helping her express what she cannot easily say.
The village also has dance routines with different speeds, cooking challenges, scooter rides, boat trips and other minigames. Completing them earns the karma that moves Pim’s memories and the main story forward.
Early Access is expected to last about three or four months. HumaNature currently plans version 1.0 for January 2027. That update is expected to add more animation, more cultural minigames, community features and extra polish while keeping the story itself intact.
The Steam price at Early Access launch will be $14.99. A free demo is available now, and the store page lists PC as the only confirmed platform for October. HumaNature says other platforms will be announced later, but it has not named them yet.
