Final Fantasy VII Revelation is returning to the spotlight at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25. Game director Naoki Hamaguchi will introduce a new look at Square Enix's third and final entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake series, giving fans the first substantial update since the game's reveal at Summer Game Fest.
The timing is useful for a game that still has a Spring 2027 release window but no exact date. Square Enix has already shown an enormous version of the world, the Highwind airship, and several playable characters. The Gamescom segment should show what the finished journey is starting to look like, even if it does not answer every question at once.
When Final Fantasy VII Revelation appears at Gamescom
Opening Night Live begins Tuesday, August 25, at 2 p.m. Eastern, 1 p.m. Central, 11 a.m. Pacific, and 8 p.m. in Central Europe. The pre-show starts 30 minutes earlier. The event will stream through Gamescom's official channels, with YouTube and Twitch also carrying the presentation.
The Final Fantasy VII segment is confirmed, but Square Enix has not said how long it will run or whether it will be a full trailer, a developer presentation, or a mix of both. Hamaguchi's appearance makes a new gameplay explanation likely, but a specific reveal should not be treated as confirmed until the show begins.

What Square Enix has already shown
The first reveal presented Revelation as the closing chapter of the Remake trilogy, not a small epilogue. Cloud and his allies are chasing Sephiroth while Meteor threatens the planet, and the Highwind can travel freely across the world. Players can jump from the airship and land by parachute, turning the map into more than a collection of separate locations.
Square Enix also showed the Mideel archipelago, Wutai, and the Northern Continent. Those places are familiar to longtime Final Fantasy VII players, but the Remake project is rebuilding them with new routes, encounters, and story choices. The reveal described a journey where the party can decide which conflicts to handle and in what order.
Combat keeps the hybrid system from the previous games, with real-time action and Tactical Mode working together. Vincent fights with guns and transformations, while Cid Highwind uses his lance to close distance or hit groups of enemies. The new FITS system lets characters equip outfits that change their movesets around classic Final Fantasy job ideas.
The Gamescom update fans are waiting for
The obvious request is an exact release date. Spring 2027 is still the only official timing, so a Gamescom date would give fans a clearer idea of how long the wait will last. It would also tell players whether the game is arriving before or after the major releases already filling the first half of next year.
A longer gameplay look could answer more immediate questions. Fans still need to see how the Highwind exploration works between story missions, how the party is divided during the world events, and whether every playable character can move between the game's different combat styles. None of those systems has a final public explanation yet.
The segment may also show characters or locations that Square Enix has kept out of the first trailer. That does not mean a new character is confirmed. It simply reflects how much of the final chapter remains unseen after a reveal built around the world map and the game's headline systems.

What the first look still does not confirm
A new trailer will not automatically settle the game's biggest unknowns. Square Enix has not confirmed how the final chapter handles its timeline changes, which side stories are optional, or how much the freely explorable map changes once the party reaches the endgame. The first reveal established the scale; it did not publish a full list of story beats.
The same caution applies to performance and online features. Revelation is described as a single-player RPG, but Square Enix has not announced final resolution targets, frame-rate modes, download sizes, or a multiplayer component. Fans can ask for those details at Gamescom without treating rumors about them as part of the official plan.
Release window, platforms, and the story setup
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled for Spring 2027 on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Xbox PC. Square Enix has not announced a price, edition list, technical targets, or a final age rating.
The story begins with the planet close to destruction. Cloud and the rest of the party are grieving a major loss while Sephiroth moves toward godhood and Meteor hangs over the world. The Highwind gives the group a way to respond to crises in different places, but the official material has not explained how much freedom the final story will allow before its last battle.
Players who have save data from Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade or Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will receive summon bonuses in Revelation. The first game unlocks Chocobo & Moogle, while Rebirth unlocks Phoenix. Those bonuses are confirmed, but Square Enix has not described the full list of carryover rewards or whether other save-data features are planned.
How to watch the new look
Gamescom Opening Night Live streams on August 25 at 2 p.m. Eastern, with the pre-show beginning at 1:30 p.m. Eastern. Viewers in Central time can tune in at 1 p.m., while Pacific time viewers should look for the 11 a.m. start. The official Gamescom stream and its YouTube and Twitch broadcasts are the safest places to watch the Final Fantasy VII Revelation segment as it happens.
If the presentation includes a new trailer or a release date, it will be the first update since the June announcement. If it stays focused on the already confirmed world and combat systems, the game will still leave Gamescom with a clearer public identity. For now, the confirmed part is simple: Revelation is on the show, Hamaguchi is appearing, and the final chapter is finally moving again.
