Detective Conan’s next case starts with a banknote that should not exist. To mark 30 years of the television anime, a new two-hour special sends Conan and a huge group of familiar investigators after a counterfeiting operation linked to murder. It airs in Japan on Friday, September 25, at 9 p.m. JST on the Yomiuri TV and Nippon TV network’s Friday Road Show slot.
The broadcaster calls the episode The No. 30 Murder Case, also using the designation “Ultra 30” for the counterfeit bill at the center of the mystery. A newly designed 10,000-yen note featuring Toto Tower has just been issued. Conan, the Detective Boys, Professor Agasa, Ran and Sonoko visit a banknote-printing facility in Nagano. Elsewhere, investigators discover that a note found at a murder scene is fake.
One fake note, several police forces
Forensic document specialist Toko Satomi identifies the counterfeit, and the case spreads well beyond a single city. Conan and Heiji Hattori head toward a suspected printing site in Osaka. Police teams also investigate facilities around Shizuoka, Kanagawa, Nagano and Gunma. The trailer draws its energy from that unusually crowded lineup: this is a TV special built to bring together people who normally solve different corners of the franchise’s cases.
The anniversary angle is not an excuse to skip the mystery. The forged money links a murder investigation to a much wider threat, and the program’s longer running time gives the detectives room to chase several leads. Yomiuri TV describes both the counterfeit plot and a murder case in its latest trailer announcement; it has not revealed the killer or the final explanation. Treat any confident solution circulating before the broadcast as speculation.
Familiar voices, a guest and a second audio track
The special brings back Minami Takayama as Conan, Akemi Okamura as Ran, Rikiya Koyama as Kogoro, Ryo Horikawa as Heiji and Yuko Miyamura as Kazuha. Guest performer Elaiza Ikeda voices Toko Satomi, the forensic specialist whose finding sets the investigation in motion. Director Fumihiro Kamanaka and writer Takahiro Sakurai are among the people behind the episode.
Yomiuri TV has also announced a secondary audio commentary featuring five voice actors and Kamanaka. It is designed to share recording stories and mark the 30-year milestone while the special airs. That is an extra for the Japanese television presentation, not an announced English-language feature or streaming release.
Mai Kuraki performs the theme song “Hallelujah,” another familiar name for longtime Conan viewers. The song is scheduled for a September 25 digital release in Japan, the same day as the broadcast. This remains an anime story first: the music supports the special, but the reason to tune in is a new case with an unusually broad cast.
The September 25 time and channel are confirmed for Japan. An international streaming date or English-subtitled release has not been announced on the broadcaster’s special-event page.
