Does your Apex Legends progress transfer to Switch 2?

The safest approach is to confirm your account details before August 4. Open Apex Legends on the original Switch while it still works, verify the EA account attached to the game, and make sure you can access the email address connected to that account. Creating a different EA account on Switch 2 can leave you looking at a new profile instead of the progress you expect.

EA says players can move to another compatible platform at any time. Cross Progression keeps account progress and eligible content available across supported systems, but Nintendo Apex Coin balances follow a separate rule explained below.

What happens to skins, purchases, and Battle Pass rewards?

Earned and purchased content carries over to Switch 2 when you use the same EA account. That includes cosmetics, Legends, purchases, and gameplay progress. You do not need to buy the same items again.

The original Switch version will still use your purchases until the shutdown. After August 4, those items remain on the account but can no longer be accessed through the unsupported Switch client. Download Apex Legends on Switch 2 and sign in with the same linked accounts to use them there.

EA states that purchases are final and non-refundable. The Switch shutdown does not create a separate refund program for previously purchased items.

What happens to Apex Coins on Nintendo Switch?

Apex Coins can move from Nintendo Switch to Nintendo Switch 2, but they cannot move from Nintendo systems to PC, PlayStation, or Xbox. Your other account progress can follow Cross Progression, but the Nintendo currency wallet stays inside the Nintendo side of the account.

If you plan to continue on Switch 2, the remaining balance should appear when you use the same Nintendo and EA accounts. If you are moving only to PC, PlayStation, or Xbox, do not expect the Switch Apex Coin balance to appear there.

EA also warns that some regions require digital currency to be used within 180 days of purchase. Players who purchased currency in Japan are specifically subject to a 180-day expiration period across all platforms.

When do downloads and purchases stop?

EA says the original Switch version remains available to download until August 4. The support FAQ also says in-game items and currency cannot be purchased after August 3. To avoid running into a cutoff during the changeover, finish any necessary download or account check by August 3.

Buying extra currency right before support ends is unnecessary if you only intend to leave Nintendo hardware. Switch Apex Coins do not move to PC, PlayStation, or Xbox. If you are moving to Switch 2, your existing Nintendo balance can follow you.

How to move Apex Legends from Switch to Switch 2

EA gives players two ways to set up the new console:

  • Nintendo System Transfer: start a system transfer from the original Switch settings and follow the console instructions.
  • Fresh download: sign in to Switch 2 with your Nintendo account, download Apex Legends, and then sign in with the same EA account used on the original Switch.

A fresh download does not erase your Apex progress because the game account is stored through EA rather than only on the console. The key step is using the correct linked account.

What should you do before August 4?

  • Confirm your EA account: check the linked email and make sure you can sign in.
  • Check your Nintendo account: use the same Nintendo account on Switch 2.
  • Review your Apex Coin balance: remember that Nintendo Coins move only to Switch 2.
  • Finish any urgent Switch activity: the original version will not work after the shutdown.
  • Download on Switch 2: install the supported version and verify your inventory before deleting anything from the old console.

Can you move from Nintendo Switch to PlayStation, Xbox, or PC?

Yes, you can continue on another compatible platform by using the EA account tied to your Apex profile. Cross Progression carries eligible progress and content across supported platforms. The Nintendo Apex Coin wallet is the limitation: those Coins do not move to PlayStation, Xbox, or PC.

If you already play on more than one platform, confirm that the same EA account is connected everywhere. Linking the wrong account can make the expected profile or inventory appear to be missing.

Does this affect Nintendo Switch 2?

No. The shutdown applies only to the original Nintendo Switch. Switch 2 remains supported and receives Season 30 and future Apex Legends updates. EA says the newer hardware gives the team the technical foundation needed to continue the handheld version.

The change is a platform migration, not an Apex Legends shutdown. Your account can remain active, your eligible content can follow you, and the game continues on every other supported system.
