Ultron wants Vision to let him out. In the new VisionQuest trailer, James Spader’s returning villain offers help saving Tommy Maximoff, but attaches a demand: Vision must free him. The footage leaves Vision weighing that offer while Tommy struggles with memories of a life he cannot explain.
Paul Bettany returns as Vision, and Ruaridh Mollica plays Tommy. Marvel’s series premieres on Disney+ on October 14, with Terry Matalas serving as showrunner. This latest preview puts their search for each other ahead of the wider Avengers story.
Ultron offers help, then makes a threat
Spader appears alongside Bettany in human form, leaning into Vision’s space and speaking as the creator who knows him better than anyone else. The trailer also shows robotic versions of Ultron, so this is not simply a familiar voice returning for a brief conversation.

Marvel TelevisionHis offer is hard to separate from the threat that follows. Ultron says he intends to finish what he started years ago. He does not spell out the plan, and the trailer does not explain exactly what freeing him would involve.
Vision therefore has a specific problem: the person offering a way to save his son is also a dangerous enemy. Accepting the help could put other people at risk. Refusing it could leave Tommy beyond his reach.
Tommy remembers a family he has lost
Tommy’s scenes give the trailer another point of view. He tells police that he remembers having a mother and a father, but those memories do not feel like his own. Mollica plays him as someone trying to explain an experience the people listening cannot easily understand.
“I have these memories. Of someone I’m not.” — Tommy Maximoff, played by Ruaridh Mollica, in the VisionQuest trailer.
That is different from a routine missing-person search. Vision needs to find Tommy, but Tommy is also trying to work out who he is. The footage connects their confusion without revealing how their reunion will happen.
When does VisionQuest premiere?
VisionQuest arrives on Disney+ on October 14. Bettany and Spader lead a cast that also includes Emily Hampshire, Orla Brady, James D’Arcy, Henry Lewis and Jonathan Sayer.
The series concludes the story begun in WandaVision and continued in Agatha All Along. For more on its production, read our coverage of Terry Matalas’s decision not to use generative AI in VisionQuest.
The new trailer does not reveal whether Vision takes Ultron’s deal. It does show why the offer is difficult to refuse: Ultron has chosen Vision’s son as the reason to listen.
