Terry Matalas says VisionQuest was made without generative AI, even though its sets deliberately imitate the mistakes associated with AI-generated pictures. The showrunner discussed that approach during a May 2025 production visit at Pinewood Studios, detailed in a report published on September 17, 2026.

“No, not at all. There hasn’t really been a need,” Matalas said when asked whether the production used generative AI.

People built the visual glitches

Production designer Will Hughes-Jones and his team built the unusual details inside the Mindspace, a house within Vision’s mind. The set included incomplete stair banisters and chairs partly built into walls. Repeated images of flowers and fruit added to the deliberately incorrect design.

The distinction is between the subject and the process: artificial intelligence shapes the fictional setting, while the crew created those physical features. Matalas’s comments describe this production; they do not establish a policy for every Marvel project.

Paul Bettany and James Spader return

Paul Bettany returns as Vision, with James Spader reprising Ultron after Avengers: Age of Ultron. Marvel’s announced cast also includes James D’Arcy, Orla Brady, Emily Hampshire and Ruaridh Mollica.

VisionQuest premieres October 14, 2026, on Disney+. Marvel describes it as the third installment in the television trilogy that began with WandaVision and continued with Agatha All Along.
