Chloë Sevigny will play defense attorney Elaine Whitfield Sharp in HBO’s The Trial of Louise Woodward. The casting announcement places her alongside Catriona Chandler, who plays Woodward, and adds a central courtroom role to the limited series.
The drama revisits the 1997 case involving a British au pair and the death of a baby in her care. Sevigny’s character represents Woodward; she is not playing the defendant or a member of the child’s family.
Who plays whom?
Joanne Froggatt plays Woodward’s mother, Susan. Meghann Fahy and Sagar Radia play Deborah and Sunil Eappen, the baby’s parents. Those roles put the family and the defense team on separate sides of the story.
Matthew Barry created the series and serves as writer, showrunner and executive producer. Susanne Bier directs every episode and is also an executive producer. Big Light Productions and Anton TV are the production companies.
The announcement concerns casting, not a premiere date. No launch date was included, so viewers should not read the new addition as confirmation that the series is about to air.
