Not every new anime needs a world-ending fight. Tanuki to Kitsune is heading to Japanese television on October 4 with a much smaller pleasure in mind: the everyday friendship between a raccoon dog and a fox. Its latest trailer shows the pair playing, eating and spending time with the other animals around their mountain home.
The preview also introduces “Nikoichi!,” a new theme song by SILENT SIREN. The song is part of the anime rather than a separate music story. Its upbeat sound matches the short, playful scenes in the video, which gives viewers a clear idea of the show’s gentle pace before it begins airing.
Who are Tanuki and Kitsune?
Tanuki loves food and games and rarely seems in a hurry. Kitsune is more mischievous, often teasing his friend even when he clearly wants to be close to him. TV Tokyo’s official introduction describes their days together in the mountains, with a quiet but kind wolf and visits from rabbits, a bear, an ermine, a dragon and noisy birds.
The trailer keeps that idea simple. One moment the friends drift across a bright green field; in another they share the spotlight with sweet potatoes in their paws. This is a story built around small gestures and familiar company, not a plot twist the preview has to hide.
A fresh TV anime for a long-running comic
Atamoto created the original Tanuki to Kitsune comic, which has followed the two animals for years. A set of very short web-anime episodes appeared in 2018, but the October release is a new television production. Tommy Hino directs it at Akatsuki Media Studio, with scripts by Rika Kihara. That distinction matters if a viewer finds older clips online and wonders whether the new trailer is simply a rerun.
Misaki Kuno voices Tanuki and Nao Toyama voices Kitsune. Toshiyuki Morikawa plays the wolf. Maria Naganawa handles the narration and one of the rabbit voices, while Takuma Nagatsuka voices the bear and another rabbit. The cast gives the show a few different personalities to move among without losing its central duo.

TV Tokyo says Tanuki to Kitsune starts Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 7 a.m. Japan time within the “Animori!” programming block on its six-station network. That is a Japanese broadcast schedule, not an international streaming announcement. No confirmed U.S. streaming platform or English-dub date appears in the official material checked for this story.
SILENT SIREN’s single is scheduled separately for October 5, the day after the TV premiere. That timing makes the trailer a timely first taste of both the show and its music. More importantly, it tells viewers what sort of company to expect each Sunday morning: a pair of friends who can make an ordinary snack feel like an event.
