Why Satoko makes the proposal
Satoko comes from a distinguished family, but she is seriously ill and believes she has little time left. She hopes a respectable marriage will make her father proud. Then she is taken by unknown enemies and forced into a far more dangerous bargain.
Shinpei is not a safe romantic escape. He is the assassin standing between Satoko and death, and his attachment to her becomes intense almost immediately. The hook is the uneasy space between her survival plan and his conviction that they are meant for each other. The official synopsis does not turn that setup into a conventional meet-cute.
