Tall Tales & Murder begins Sunday, September 27 at 9:40 p.m. on RTÉ One in Ireland. All six episodes are due on RTÉ Player the same day. The new crime comedy follows Bridget, a Dublin nursing-home worker, and Paul, a car thief who takes a job there while trying to stay out of prison. Their plan changes when a patient wakes from a coma and tells them about buried Celtic gold.

Ella-Lily Hyland plays Bridget, who works the night shift at the nursing home. Casey Walsh plays Paul, who owes money to a crime boss named Ma Baker. Detective Bunny Ryan helps him get a job at the home. On Bridget and Paul’s first shift together, a patient called Anonymous wakes up and says he is Grinner McNair, a gangster who knows where a stash of gold is hidden.
The search pulls Bridget and Paul into trouble with Ma Baker and another gangster, Wesley Swanson. The show also brings in a story about monks, Vikings and a missing holy book. Avalon describes it as a six-part crime story with comedy, not a straight detective drama. It is based on Caimh McDonnell’s Dublin Trilogy books.

Aidan Gillen plays Grinner McNair. Philippa Dunne plays Ma Baker, Brian Doherty plays Bunny Ryan, Aisling O’Sullivan plays the nursing-home matron, and Packy Lee plays Wesley Swanson. Walsh told RTÉ that he grew up watching Stuart Carolan’s earlier series Love/Hate, but does not see this as the same kind of show. His description is direct:

Walsh said he had wanted to act before he began making music. He auditioned for Paul while on his honeymoon and later worked with an acting coach before filming. Paul is Walsh’s first television acting role. His interview also makes clear that the character is trying to make better choices while still dealing with the trouble he caused.
Who made the series, and where can you watch it?
Stuart Carolan and Chris Addison co-created Tall Tales & Murder. Carolan created Love/Hate; Addison and Neasa Hardiman direct the new series. Avalon made it with Metropolitan Pictures for RTÉ and BBC Northern Ireland. BBC One and BBC One Northern Ireland are expected to show it later in autumn 2026, but the BBC has not provided a precise date in the official announcement.
