Story of Seasons finally showed its next game again, and Marvelous still is not ready to tell us what to call it. The new work-in-progress video is short, bright, and packed with the farm-life details the series is known for: animals in the grass, a small house, and a world that looks ready for another slow morning of chores.

The footage appeared during the Story of Seasons 30th Anniversary and Rune Factory 20th Anniversary livestream on August 24. Marvelous did not announce an official title, platforms, or a release date, so this is a look at the project's direction rather than a full reveal.

That leaves the series in a strange place. The game has been publicly shown before, but three years after its first announcement it is still being described as a new title in development. The name is missing, the release plan is missing, and the video ends just as fans start asking what has changed.

The new clip is all farm life and friendly animals

The video opens on a colorful farm area with a large cow in the foreground, another cow behind it, and a chicken wandering through the grass. A small house sits in the background, surrounded by trees, fences, and the kind of soft lighting that makes even a chore list look inviting.

It is a simple scene, but it tells us more than a logo would. The next Story of Seasons is still built around a lived-in farm rather than a dramatic story hook or a big combat showcase. Marvelous is choosing to show the place first: the animals, the house, and the feeling that there is time to walk around before the day's work begins.

The footage does not show a character farming, speaking with villagers, or entering a menu. It also does not identify the town, the animals, or the game's main character. Those omissions are important because the clip is easy to mistake for a finished trailer when the official post calls it work in progress.

It has been three years without a title

Marvelous first showed footage of a traditional new Story of Seasons game in May 2023. The same presentation also mentioned a separate project built around playing with other people. At the time, neither game had a final name, platform list, or release date.

The new clip does not clear up any of those points. It is another official look at the project, but the wording remains deliberately broad: this is the next Story of Seasons title, still in development. Even the official video title uses “new title” instead of a subtitle or a series number.

That long gap changes how the update lands. A short farm scene would be normal for an early announcement, but this project has now appeared across multiple years without moving into a conventional marketing campaign. Fans can see the art direction changing and the world taking shape, but they still cannot put the game on a wishlist.

Grand Bazaar explains what this project is not

Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar is the latest named release in the franchise. Marvelous launched that reimagining on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC in 2025, then brought it to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2026. It uses the familiar farm, animal, relationship, and town-building loop, with a bazaar that grows as the player sells what the farm produces.

Series manager Hikaru Nakano confirmed in a 2025 interview that Grand Bazaar was one of the projects referred to in the 2023 Story of Seasons presentation. He did not identify the other new titles. That means the unnamed game in today's video should not be treated as Grand Bazaar 2 or as a hidden expansion; the footage belongs to a separate project that Marvelous still has not named.

The distinction also explains why the footage feels familiar without looking like a direct Grand Bazaar update. The animals and farm are part of the franchise's language, but the setting, characters, and larger structure remain open questions.

Is this the multiplayer Story of Seasons?

The 2023 announcement separated a traditional new game from a multiplayer project. The new video does not say which of those two efforts it represents, and the presence of several animals is not evidence of multiplayer. There is no co-op footage, shared farm, second player, or online feature shown here.

The most honest read is that Marvelous is showing a new Story of Seasons project while keeping its identity private. It may be the traditional game, the multiplayer game, or a project whose plans changed during development. The company needs to name it before any of those possibilities can become a fact.

That uncertainty is likely to keep the conversation going, especially because the clip looks close enough to the series fans know to invite guesses. A name and a clear explanation of the game's structure would do more for the next update than another few seconds of animals walking through a field.

What Marvelous needs to show next

The next trailer should start with the information the new video avoids: the title, the platforms, and the release window. After that, a small slice of actual play would answer the questions the farm scene raises. How does the player move through the town? What has changed in farming? Are relationships still central? Is the multiplayer idea real, or was it folded into another project?

A longer look would also help separate this game from Grand Bazaar and from the many farming sims now competing for the same audience. Story of Seasons does not need to become an action game to stand out. It needs a place with its own rhythm, characters people want to visit, and a reason to keep returning after the first harvest.

For now, the next game has a clear mood but no name. The animals are there, the farm is being built, and Marvelous has confirmed the project is still moving. Until the title finally appears, fans are left with the same question the video refuses to answer: what is this one called?
