Halo: Campaign Evolved is a modern remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign, not a remaster that simply preserves the 2001 release. It launched on July 28, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Steam. Digital editions support Xbox Play Anywhere, and the game supports cross-play and shared progression across supported console and PC versions.

The main campaign follows Master Chief after a crash landing on the ringworld Halo. Working with Cortana and surviving human forces, he fights the Covenant, explores the ring's facilities, and uncovers the threat hidden inside it. The remake rebuilds the original missions with high-definition visuals, updated cinematics, rebuilt audio, refined controls, and revised level design while keeping the campaign's core story and mission structure.

Campaign Evolved expands the original combat sandbox with nine additional weapons from across the Halo series, new enemies, more vehicle options, and the ability to hijack enemy vehicles, including driving a Wraith tank. Operation: METEORITE adds three new prequel missions set one year before Halo: Combat Evolved, featuring Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson during a UNSC operation against the Covenant.

Players can complete the campaign alone or with up to four players in online co-op. Cross-platform sessions work across Xbox, PC, Steam, and PlayStation 5, while consoles also support two-player split-screen. Shared progression carries campaign progress between console and PC. Skull modifiers alter weapons, enemies, environments, or other mission rules, and the game includes 42 Skulls plus Campaign Remix, a mode built around changing how familiar missions play. It is a campaign-focused release rather than a competitive multiplayer package.
