Netflix has ordered two Top Boy spin-offs: Jonny Boy and Jaq. Jonny Boy is a five-episode prequel starring Barry Keoghan as Jonny McGee. Jaq is a six-episode series starring Jasmine Jobson as Jacqueline “Jaq” Lawrence. Both begin filming in 2027, but Netflix has not announced release dates.

Jonny Boy is a five-episode prequel
Barry Keoghan will reprise his Top Boy role as Irish gangster Jonny McGee. Netflix describes Jonny Boy as an origin story, so the five episodes take place before Jonny’s arrival in the final season of the Netflix revival. The announcement does not yet identify the exact time period, setting beyond the Top Boy world, or any returning character other than Jonny.
Top Boy creator Ronan Bennett is writing the prequel. Ali Abbasi will direct and also executive produce. Keoghan and Des Byrne are executive producers through Wolfcub Productions, the company that pitched the project. Those credits make the creative team official; a supporting cast and production start date more specific than 2027 remain unannounced.
Jaq continues beyond Summerhouse
Jasmine Jobson returns as Jacqueline “Jaq” Lawrence for a six-episode series built around her life after the original story. Netflix specifically describes it as Jaq’s story beyond Summerhouse. That makes it a continuation for the character rather than a retelling of earlier Top Boy events.
Ryan Calais Cameron created and is writing Jaq. Cameron and Jobson are executive producers. Netflix still calls Jaq a working title, which means the name can change before release. The announcement does not confirm whether Becks, Sully, Dushane, or any other established Top Boy character will appear.
How the spin-offs connect to Top Boy
The two projects extend different sides of the same world. Jonny Boy moves backward to explain how Jonny McGee became the dangerous figure viewers met in Top Boy’s final season. Jaq moves forward with a character whose future was deliberately left open after she tried to return the drugs she had taken from Sully.
Neither announcement reopens Dushane and Sully’s completed story, and Netflix has not called either project a new season of Top Boy. Treating Jonny Boy and Jaq as separate series is therefore more accurate than labeling them Top Boy Season 4. Netflix announced them as separate commissions with their own creative teams. The episode orders also belong to the individual spin-offs: five for Jonny Boy and six for Jaq.
Is Drake involved in Jonny Boy and Jaq?
Yes. Aubrey “Drake” Graham remains an executive producer on both series. He helped bring Top Boy back through DreamCrew Entertainment after championing the earlier Top Boy: Summerhouse. Adel “Future” Nur also executive produces for DreamCrew.
Ronan Bennett executive produces both shows through Easter Partisan Films. Charles Steel and Alasdair Flind represent Cowboy Films, while Maverick Carter and Jamal Henderson represent SpringHill Studios, a Fulwell Entertainment label. The individual creative credits then split between the Jonny Boy and Jaq teams described above.
When will Jonny Boy and Jaq be released?
Netflix has not announced a release year or date for either series. The only official production window is that both begin filming in 2027. A premiere in 2027 is therefore not guaranteed: filming, post-production, and Netflix scheduling still have to happen after cameras start.
There are also no official trailers, teaser clips, episode titles, or full cast lists yet. Any exact release date or broader cast circulating before Netflix publishes it should be treated as unconfirmed.
