Netflix Tudum reported the casting and production update on March 4, 2026. Filming is taking place on O‘ahu and the island of Hawaii. Netflix has not announced a premiere date, episode count, or trailer for the second season.
Where is UNTAMED Season 2 set?
The new story takes Turner to Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, where he investigates a mysterious death. The park sits on Hawaii Island and includes active volcanic landscapes, forests, and coastal areas. Local tensions will be part of the case, so Turner will be dealing with people who know the island and its history better than he does.
Season 1 followed Turner through an investigation in Yosemite National Park. The second season keeps the same basic setup—a death in a national park—but changes the geography, community, and people surrounding the investigation. Netflix’s official update says Turner travels through several parks before reaching Hawaii, which gives the move a practical reason inside the story.
Who is returning?
Eric Bana will play Kyle Turner again. Turner is an ISB agent who handles serious incidents inside the National Park Service. In the first season, the character’s knowledge of Yosemite helped him read the terrain and the people around the case. Hawaii puts him in a different position, with a new park and a local investigation team to learn.
UNTAMED was created by Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith, who also executive produce the series. The show was first planned as a six-episode standalone story, but the creators said the cast and the possibilities of the format led to another season.
Who are Shea Whigham and Kelly Hu playing?
Shea Whigham plays Ray Burkart, a businessman whose son has been murdered. Ray moved from California to Hawaii Island three decades ago and now runs several businesses, including some that are not fully legal. His anger over the death puts him in direct conflict with Turner’s investigation.
Kelly Hu plays Awapuhi, a woman born and raised on Hawaii Island. She spent several years in Oahu dealing with the death of her son before returning to the Big Island. Netflix describes her as one of the people Turner meets as the new case unfolds, but the company has not revealed how closely she is tied to the murder.

The wider cast includes Moon Bloodgood as Layla Hale, Kekoa Kekumano as park ranger Marcus Sawada, and Luciane Buchanan as Hawaii Police detective Ku‘ulei Pana. Pana grew up on the island and is assigned to the murder investigation.
Moronai Kanekoa plays ranch wrangler Ti Hale, while Matthew Keoni Sato plays Ray Burkart’s son Kaden. Robbie Magasiva appears as Lieutenant Ochi, Myra Molloy plays Addy Hale, Branscombe Richmond plays ranch patriarch Ikua Hale, and Joe Tippett plays Casper Kane.
Why does the Hawaii setting change the show?
Turner is no longer investigating in a place where he has the advantage. The Hawaii case brings him into contact with local park staff, police officers, ranch families, and business owners who have their own connections to the island. Ray Burkart’s conflict with Turner also gives the murder a personal cost beyond the official investigation.
The location changes the type of danger around the case as well. Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park has volcanic terrain and weather that can shift quickly, while the surrounding communities have long memories and competing interests. The series can use those details to make the investigation depend on who Turner trusts, not only on what he finds at a crime scene.

When will UNTAMED Season 2 be released?
