Rosamund Pike and Ryan Gosling in a Ghost Rider movie sounds like an unusual pairing, but it could work. According to entertainment insider Jeff Sneider, as reported by ComicBook.com, Pike is being considered for the female lead and possible love interest. Marvel has not confirmed it, so she is not part of the cast yet.
Even as a rumor, Pike's name makes sense. She can make a quiet scene feel tense without raising her voice, and she is just as comfortable with dry humor or outright danger. Ghost Rider needs that kind of presence. The flaming skull and motorcycle will get attention, but the people around the hero have to make his life feel worth caring about.
Gosling's place in the movie is official. Marvel introduced him as Ghost Rider at San Diego Comic-Con and announced Shawn Levy as director, with the movie planned for 2028. The studio has not revealed the story or said which version of Ghost Rider Gosling will play.
This will be the character's first movie since Nicolas Cage returned for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance in 2012. Gabriel Luna later played Robbie Reyes on Agents of SHIELD, but Gosling's film is being presented as a new MCU project. Fans should expect a fresh cast and a different starting point.
Who Could Rosamund Pike Play?
Roxanne Simpson is the obvious guess if Gosling is playing Johnny Blaze. In Marvel Comics, Roxanne knows Johnny before he makes the deal that turns him into Ghost Rider. She remembers the person underneath the curse, which gives her a reason to challenge him when he starts losing control.
The Roxanne theory depends on Gosling being Johnny Blaze. Ghost Rider is a name used by several characters, including Danny Ketch and Robbie Reyes. Marvel could choose one of them, combine parts of their stories, or introduce someone new. Pike may not be playing a familiar comic character at all.
Roxanne has already appeared in live action. Eva Mendes played her opposite Nicolas Cage in the 2007 Ghost Rider movie, where she was a reporter and Johnny's former girlfriend. An MCU version would not need to repeat that relationship or her job. It could give Pike a very different version of the character.
The early report only describes Pike's possible role as a love interest, and that is where Marvel needs to be careful. Pike would be wasted as someone who waits at home while Ghost Rider handles the supernatural action. Her character should have her own reason to enter that world, make decisions that affect the story, and disagree with Gosling when the situation gets ugly.
Pike and Gosling Could Be a Great Match
Many movie fans know Pike as Amy Dunne in Gone Girl, but she has played far more than cold or dangerous characters. She was Miranda Frost in Die Another Day, led the dark comedy I Care a Lot, and spent several seasons as Moiraine in The Wheel of Time. She understands fantasy, sharp dialogue, and characters who keep part of themselves hidden.
Gosling often works in a quieter way. He can seem relaxed or detached until something becomes personal, while Pike is good at making calm conversations uncomfortable. Put those styles together and the movie could have real tension before Ghost Rider ever appears on screen.
Two experienced leads would also fit the character better than a quick romance between action scenes. Ghost Rider is usually an adult carrying years of guilt, not a young hero learning his first lesson. A relationship with history, anger, and unfinished business would give Gosling and Pike more to play than a standard MCU introduction.

Right now, Pike is still only connected to the project through a report. If she signs, Marvel does not need to turn her into another superhero. It does need to give her a character with her own choices, a real connection to the supernatural story, and enough screen time to challenge Gosling.
