Rosalind Eleazar went into the Toronto International Film Festival best known to many viewers as Louisa Guy on Slow Horses. After the world premiere of Misty Green, she became one of the names being discussed for Best Actress.
Eleazar plays a once-successful television actor whose career and living situation are falling apart. Reviews have disagreed about parts of Chris Rock’s film, but the praise for Eleazar has been unusually consistent. Misty Green is also her first lead role in a movie.
Why is Rosalind Eleazar getting Oscar buzz?
Misty is talented, angry, funny, self-destructive, and desperate for another chance. Eleazar has to make all of those sides believable without turning the character into a simple comeback story. Early reactions have singled out the speed with which she moves between confidence, panic, and exhaustion.
The role also lets her sing. One of the film’s most discussed scenes has Misty perform “One Night Only” from Dreamgirls while she fights for a role in a new screen version of the musical. The scene gives voters an easy example of Eleazar carrying both the drama and the performance inside the performance.
Her audition for the movie was nearly as stressful. Eleazar said she rented a studio for a video callback, only for music, passing trains, and a bad internet connection to interrupt it. The frustration pushed her to play the scene with more force. She later paid for her own flight to Los Angeles so she could meet Rock and audition in person.
What is Misty Green about?
Misty once won an Emmy for a fictional television series called Red Eye, but those successful years are behind her. She has seven days to leave the apartment where she has been staying, little money, and an industry that no longer treats her like a star.
A director from her past offers a possible way back, but Misty still has to deal with damaged relationships and her own behavior. Chris Rock wrote and directed the film and also appears in it. Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, Anna Kendrick, and Topher Grace are among the principal cast.

Where have viewers seen Rosalind Eleazar before?
Eleazar plays MI5 agent Louisa Guy in Slow Horses. The Apple TV spy series gave her a large international audience, but Misty Green is the first movie built around her performance.
She also returns in Slow Horses Season 6, which begins September 16. That puts her television return and the start of the Misty Green awards campaign in the same month.
Her earlier screen work includes The Personal History of David Copperfield, while her stage credits include The Starry Messenger and Uncle Vanya. Misty Green gives movie audiences a much larger role than those supporting appearances.
When does Misty Green come to theaters?
A24’s official trailer says Misty Green will open in October. Current U.S. release listings use October 9, although the studio’s film page still labels the exact date as TBD. A streaming date has not been announced.
An Oscar nomination is not guaranteed, and A24 will need to keep the film visible through the rest of awards season. The TIFF response has already changed the conversation. Misty Green was promoted as Chris Rock’s return to directing, but reviewers are now talking most about Rosalind Eleazar.
