TV Asahi traces the new Obocchama-kun REBORN anime to the original series’ 2021 broadcast in India. The broadcaster says it ranked first among kids’ channel programs in 40 of 52 weeks that year, and that requests from India for a continuation helped set the new project in motion; see the producer interview.
The manga began in 1986, making this year its 40th anniversary. The original TV anime ran from 1989 to 1992. The new adaptation is planned for TV Asahi’s Japanese network in 2027; the official program page gives no exact premiere date or international streaming partner.
What changes in REBORN?
The new anime will include manga stories that have not yet been animated, alongside original stories supervised by Yoshinori Kobayashi, the manga’s creator. TV Asahi lists Green Gold Animation for production, with Shin-Ei Animation and Sony Pictures Networks India as production collaborators.
Chama returns with Chie Kōjiro
Chama is the heir to a fabulously wealthy family; his extreme fortune and offbeat jokes draw family and classmates into comic mishaps. Chie Kōjiro, who voiced Chama in the original show, returns for the new anime.

The teaser heads through the jungle
TV Asahi’s 30-second teaser opens on an island expedition: it shows a helicopter arriving, then Chama moving through jungle and cave. The sequence later reaches the mansion gates before revealing him.

The scene continues at the gates of Chama’s home. TV Asahi says the teaser ends with his familiar catchphrases.
