Sailor Moon is getting its first moving theme-park ride. Universal Studios Japan will turn Hollywood Dream — The Ride into a Sailor Moon Story Ride from December 2, 2026 through April 5, 2027.
The experience will use character voices and a story played through speakers near each rider. Universal has not revealed the full plot, but the format is designed to make the coaster feel like an adventure with the Sailor Guardians rather than a normal ride with themed music.
What is the new Sailor Moon ride?
Hollywood Dream is an outdoor roller coaster at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka. The Sailor Moon version will add a franchise story and audio timed to the movement of the train. Riders should hear dialogue and effects close to their ears while the coaster moves through its drops and turns.
Hollywood Dream already supports selectable on-ride audio, which makes it a natural fit for the collaboration. The Sailor Moon program changes the soundtrack and adds a narrated scenario without requiring Universal to build a completely new coaster.
The park has not announced which Guardians will speak, whether the story includes a new villain, or which music will be used. Those details are promised for a later update.
Is this really Sailor Moon’s first theme-park ride?
It is the franchise’s first moving ride built around a coaster. Sailor Moon has appeared at Universal Studios Japan before, including 4-D theater attractions where guests watched a film with synchronized physical effects.
One of those theater experiences is returning during the same event. Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: The Miracle 4-D — Moon Palace Edition Deluxe will play at the Cinema 4-D Theater. The coaster and theater show are separate attractions.
Fans can therefore experience two different formats during the same visit: a seated film with physical theater effects and a moving coaster with story audio. Neither attraction has been announced as permanent.
When can fans ride it?
The event begins December 2, 2026 and ends April 5, 2027. Universal says tickets generally go on sale about two months before a selected visit date, although availability and park-entry requirements can change.
The experience is in Japan, and no version has been announced for Universal parks in the United States or elsewhere. Merchandise and additional story details will be revealed later.
