Brendan Fraser is back in Rick O’Connell’s leather jacket. New photos from the set of Universal’s next Mummy sequel show Fraser filming in Suffolk, England, giving fans the first clear look at his return to the adventure series.
The photos show Rick in black riding gear and a helmet as he drives a silver-and-red rocket car across a former military base. Universal has not released an official still, plot summary, or final title, so “The Mummy 4” remains the easiest shorthand rather than the confirmed name.

The rocket car is the standout. It looks closer to a postwar speed machine than anything from the first three films, and Fraser’s wardrobe has the same rough adventurer energy fans associate with Rick. The vehicle and costumes have pushed viewers toward a 1950s theory, but the studio has not confirmed the year.
Rachel Weisz was photographed earlier in production as Evelyn O’Connell outside the British Museum. Together, the two sets of images suggest the sequel is keeping archaeology and pulp adventure close to the front. They do not reveal the mummy, the villain, or the event that pulls Rick and Evelyn into another expedition.
Who is returning for the new Mummy movie?
Fraser and Weisz are joined by John Hannah as Evelyn’s brother Jonathan Carnahan and Oded Fehr as Medjai warrior Ardeth Bay. The four returning actors reconnect the new film directly to The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, rather than treating it as another reboot of the Universal monster.
Fraser has been open about wanting a different kind of return after the colder reception to The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. In a 2025 interview, he put the reason plainly:
“It’s time to give the fans what they want.”
The directors are Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the filmmaking team behind Ready or Not and the fifth and sixth Scream movies. Their horror background fits the franchise, but the returning cast points toward the mix of scares, comedy, romance, and action that defined the 1999 film.
When will The Mummy 4 open in theaters?
Universal has scheduled the sequel for October 15, 2027 in the United States. Production is underway, but there is no trailer or official synopsis yet.
