Sabrina Carpenter will play Ginger Rogers and Margaret Qualley will play Adele Astaire opposite Tom Holland as Fred Astaire in Sony Pictures’ untitled film. Paul King, who directed the Paddington films and Wonka, is set to direct.
Why Adele matters to this story
Adele was Fred’s older sister and his original stage partner, years before his screen partnership with Rogers. The film is based on Kathleen Riley’s book The Astaires: Fred & Adele. King and Steven Levenson wrote the screenplay. In a statement about the project, King emphasized that no footage of Adele dancing survives, making her stage career a particular challenge to recreate.
