Avengers: Endgame Encore made an estimated $86 million worldwide in its opening weekend, according to Disney. The re-release took $26 million in the United States and Canada and $60 million internationally, putting the 2019 film back at the top of the global box office.
Disney calls it the second-biggest global opening for a re-release. These are weekend estimates, so the final reported figures may move a little. The result is still striking for a film that first opened seven years ago and is already one of the highest-grossing movies ever.
What is different about the Encore release?
This is not just another showing of the original cut. Disney says the new presentation includes exclusive footage that connects to Avengers: Doomsday. It also gives theater audiences a first look at the upcoming film, which is scheduled for December 18. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo worked on Endgame and are returning for Doomsday.
The studio has not described the extra footage as a replacement ending or a full new movie. If you want to see it, check that your theater is showing Endgame Encore, not a regular listing for the 2019 film.

How much has Endgame made now?
Disney puts the film's worldwide total at $2.885 billion after the new weekend. It remains No. 2 on the all-time global chart, about $39 million behind Avatar, using Disney's current figures. The company also says Marvel Studios has now brought in $35.075 billion across 38 films.
Endgame first opened in 2019 with a record $1.2 billion global weekend. This new run is much smaller than that original launch, of course, but it shows how many people were willing to return to theaters before the next Avengers movie.

The Encore version played in more than 3,000 theaters over the weekend. More than 1,300 were the newly branded Infinity Vision screens, which Disney says accounted for about 52% of the weekend's ticket sales. That figure describes where the tickets were sold; it does not mean those screens have a different story cut.
For moviegoers, the simple choice is whether seeing Endgame on a large screen again — with its new Doomsday material — is worth a ticket. The $86 million opening suggests plenty of fans decided it was.
