Friendly Steps releases on Steam on September 3, 2026 for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It is a paid game for one to four players, but neither its price nor its exact unlock time is displayed yet. Players control each leg independently, and co-op teams can link themselves with a rope while trying to walk home through a physics-heavy city.

When does Friendly Steps release?

KORO.GAMES and Steam both list Thursday, September 3, 2026 as the full release date. The game is still marked as coming soon, so this is a prelaunch page rather than an Early Access release or a finished game with reviews already available.

The official store does not publish a precise global unlock hour. Steam shows a relative prelaunch countdown, while the developer’s release-date announcement names the day without a time zone. A countdown estimate from a third-party tracker should not be treated as an official release time.

How much does Friendly Steps cost?

The price has not been announced. Steam’s store data marks Friendly Steps as paid, but there is no dollar amount, preorder button, launch discount, bundle, or regional price table on the page yet.

That means the full game is not confirmed as free even though many players tried a prelaunch demo and playtest. The live Steam purchase box will be the reliable source once Ytopia enables sales; any price posted before then is an estimate.

How many players does Friendly Steps support?

Friendly Steps supports one to four players. Steam lists single-player as well as online and LAN co-op, so a solo player can attempt the walk without filling a team, while a full party can bring up to four characters.

Four players is a maximum, not a requirement. The official description repeatedly calls the game a one-to-four-player experience and does not say that puzzles require a fixed party size. Difficulty scaling, checkpoints, and the effect of a missing teammate will need to be tested in the launch build.

Does Friendly Steps have local or split-screen co-op?

Steam currently lists online co-op and LAN co-op, but it does not list Shared/Split Screen or Remote Play Together. Players should not assume that four people can share one screen or one PC just because the publisher describes the game as playable with friends.

LAN co-op means separate devices can connect over a local network. It is not the same feature as couch co-op. KORO.GAMES has not published a launch guide for hosting, joining, reconnecting, or mixing LAN and online players.

How do the Friendly Steps controls work?

Movement is deliberately awkward: each leg is controlled independently, so walking requires alternating steps while keeping the character balanced. Players can stumble, crawl, recover, or fall as the terrain changes. The official trailer and screenshots show checkpoints, a fall counter, and an action prompt, but the final keyboard and controller button map is not yet published.

Steam lists full controller support plus DualShock and DualSense support. The July demo update also says gamepad navigation in the skin shop was improved. Exact bindings can still change between the demo and the release build, so a controls guide should be based on the live September 3 version rather than prelaunch assumptions.

What does the rope change in co-op?

The rope links the party so that one player’s movement affects everyone else. A teammate can help pull someone across a gap, but a bad step can also drag the rest of the group off a bridge or obstacle. It is a coordination tool and a source of failure, not a passive cosmetic.

The current store page describes rope-linked co-op as a core feature but does not explain whether the rope is always active, how it is equipped, or whether its length can be adjusted. Those are guide-worthy questions only after the final build can be checked directly.

What is included in the full game?

The full campaign expands beyond the demo with hills, stairs, bridges, parks, construction sites, playgrounds, and questionable shortcuts. Hidden items, quests, side paths, and unusual encounters reward exploration instead of treating the journey as a single straight obstacle course.

A separate speedrun mode is designed for players who learn the movement system and want the fastest route home. Steam also confirms character customization, emotes, online voice chat, achievements, cloud saves, and leaderboards. The store does not publish a campaign length, level count, achievement count, or postgame structure yet.

Is the Friendly Steps demo still available?

The current Steam listing does not expose a separate demo app or download button. KORO.GAMES documented a playable demo and multiple limited playtests during development, including a July 1.4.4 build, but availability during those tests does not guarantee that the same build remains downloadable at launch.

Ytopia’s launch release says more than 500,000 people played the Next Fest demo and that it ranked among the event’s 20 most-played demos. Those are publisher-reported reach figures, not sales or current-player numbers. Steam has no user-review score for the unreleased full game yet.

Is Friendly Steps on console or Steam Deck?

The confirmed release is on Steam for Windows, macOS, and Linux/SteamOS. PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo versions have not been announced, and the Steam page does not show a Valve Steam Deck compatibility rating.

A native Linux build and SteamOS requirements make handheld testing plausible, but they do not prove Verified or Playable status. Buyers who need Deck support should wait for Valve’s compatibility result or verified launch-day testing.

Languages, voice chat, and accessibility information

Steam lists interface support for 14 languages, including French, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Portuguese from Portugal, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, and Ukrainian. English is the only language currently marked for full audio, and the table does not mark non-English subtitle support.

Online voice chat is a named feature, and the demo update mentions fixes for microphone-selection edge cases. The page does not yet publish a broader accessibility questionnaire, text-chat specification, speech-to-text option, colorblind mode, or voice-chat moderation controls.

Will Friendly Steps have Steam Workshop tools?

KORO.GAMES says Steam Workshop support is being developed, starting with custom hats made through an in-game creator. A scenario or map editor is also planned for later, but the developer explicitly framed some of this work as post-launch content.

Workshop hats and a future map editor should not be counted as guaranteed launch-day features. The September 3 store page, patch notes, and in-game menus will determine what is actually available in version 1.0.

What remains unannounced before launch?

  • Exact release time: the date is official, but no hour or time zone is displayed.
  • Price and launch discount: Steam has not published either.
  • Campaign length and level count: the publisher describes a complete campaign without giving totals.
  • Couch co-op: LAN and online co-op are listed; split-screen is not.
  • Steam Deck rating: Valve has not posted one.
  • Demo at launch: the old demo is documented, but no current download is listed.

The Friendly Steps game page keeps the release status, official trailer, platforms, screenshots, price status, and future Pixel Twelve coverage together.
