Ella Stiller says Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor greeted her Cupertino casting with playful envy. Speaking at the September 30 premiere in New York, she described their teasing as affectionate, not a complaint about her new job.
Stiller plays Christy Palladino, an assistant at the law firm at the center of Cupertino. The CBS drama pairs her with Mike Colter and Rachel Keller in a story about lawyers taking on powerful technology companies. Robert King and Michelle King, the team behind The Good Wife, created the series.
From Juilliard to a new television ensemble
Stiller trained at Juilliard before building credits on television, in films and on stage. She appeared opposite Lisa Kudrow in The Comeback and worked on the third season of And Just Like That…, giving her experience in two shows with long-established casts. Her recent films include Happy Gilmore 2 and Driver’s Ed.
Her Off-Broadway debut was Dilaria, in which she performed opposite Chris Briney. Her next announced film is the romantic comedy See You on the Other Side. Cupertino adds a different kind of part to that work: Christy belongs to a legal team rather than a show-business comedy or a stage production.
At the premiere, Stiller also credited her parents’ example of working hard and treating people kindly. Their reaction to the job was a joke; the advice she described was about how to approach the work.
Who Christy works with in Cupertino
Colter plays Michael Price, a lawyer who loses the stock options he expected from a technology employer. He does not simply accept the loss. He joins fellow fired attorney Olivia Siffre, played by Keller, to represent people who have been pushed around by Silicon Valley companies.
Christy is the young assistant at their firm. Around the two lawyers, the show introduces people whose lives and money connect to the technology business. Nik Dodani plays coder Vikram Malhotra. Busy Philipps plays Natalia Boutella, a billionaire’s former wife who helps finance the firm.
Renée Elise Goldsberry plays Nichole E. Ferebee, an attorney who faces Michael in court. Their relationship is not only professional: the characters also have a romantic history. Those connections give the legal disputes a personal side, with former partners, financial backers and clients sharing space with the lawyers.

For Colter, Cupertino is another collaboration with the Kings after Evil, where he played David Acosta. He is also known for playing Luke Cage, and his film work includes Plane with Gerard Butler and The Union with Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg. Michael Price moves him into a workplace and courtroom story rather than a supernatural investigation.
Keller’s earlier television work includes Fargo’s second season, three seasons of Legion and two seasons of Tokyo Vice. Her films include A Man Called Otto opposite Tom Hanks and Chestnut opposite Natalia Dyer. In Cupertino, she shares the lead legal partnership with Colter rather than joining the story only as a client.
Philipps and Goldsberry have already worked together on Girls5eva. Philipps also has long-running comedy credits in Cougar Town and earlier roles in Freaks and Geeks and Dawson’s Creek. Goldsberry’s stage work includes her Tony-winning performance as Angelica Schuyler in Hamilton, while her television credits include The Good Wife. Cupertino brings her back to another series from the Kings.
Dodani’s screen credits include Atypical, Murphy Brown, Twisters and Escape Room. On stage, he made his Broadway debut as Ogie in Waitress. The Kings’ own earlier series include The Good Wife, The Good Fight, Evil and Elsbeth; Liz Glotzer and Sam Hoffman also serve as Cupertino executive producers.
