iQIYI has confirmed Bai Lu and Chen Zheyuan as the leads of Chao Yu Jie (朝玉阶), a Chinese costume romance in its 2027 lineup. The September 23 announcement introduced the pair alongside a striking palace-and-puppet-strings concept poster.
Who has been confirmed?
Bai Lu is listed as Lu Zhaoxi / Yan Chaochao, while Chen Zheyuan plays Tu Yin. The announcement uses Bai Lu’s birth name, Bai Mengyan, beside her stage name. It does not explain how the two names in her character credit connect.
The announcement itself, shown below, names the leads and introduces the new artwork. Its message compares the characters’ fate to strings they might finally take into their own hands.
What is Chao Yu Jie about?
According to iQIYI’s official synopsis, 18-year-old Lu Zhaoxi wakes up twelve years in the future. Her former home is in ruins, and the deaths of her family remain unresolved. She enters the palace and court in another person’s body to find out what happened.
Tu Yin is a powerful regent carrying a long-held attachment from those intervening years. A noble consort in the palace appears to share Lu Zhaoxi’s fate. The platform has not yet explained the link between the consort, the body Lu inhabits and the second name in Bai Lu’s cast credit.
The full poster sets a woman above an elaborate palace, with a man in red below. Fine strings turn the palace into a puppet stage, making the artwork a visual clue to the drama’s fate-and-control theme. It is illustrated concept art, not a photograph of the actors in a filmed scene.
