Adam Driver is joining Marvel’s X-Men movie, but not as the villain most rumors named.

Marvel Studios announced at D23 that Driver will play Mister Sinister. According to the Associated Press report from the event, Driver briefly claimed he was playing Magneto before correcting himself with “Nathaniel Milbury,” one of Mister Sinister’s aliases.

The joke neatly ended weeks of Magneto speculation. It also gave the reboot a villain whose comic history is tied directly to Cyclops, Jean Grey, mutation, and the ethics of treating people as genetic material.

Marvel’s X-Men Cast Now Has Seven Confirmed Roles

Variety’s D23 report lists Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Scott Summers/Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Driver as Mister Sinister.

The announcement turns several pieces of casting news into one visible team. It also clears up roles that had not been public: Navarrette is Rogue, Abbott is Professor X, and Boyd is Storm. Driver appeared by video rather than joining the group onstage.

Two of the names were already familiar to Pixel Twelve readers. Kit Connor had been reported as Marvel’s choice for Cyclops, while Samara Weaving’s Emma Frost casting surfaced earlier this month. D23 placed both actors with the larger ensemble and removed the remaining uncertainty around Connor.
