Setting and story

SILENT HILL: Townfall is scheduled to release on September 24, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Steam and the Epic Games Store. It is a full-length, self-contained psychological horror game developed by Scottish studio Screen Burn Interactive and co-published by Annapurna Interactive and KONAMI.

This is a pre-release reference, not a review or hands-on guide. KONAMI and Screen Burn have shown trailers and described systems through official announcements and developer interviews. The final game may change before launch, and details such as the full story, complete enemy roster, playtime and PC requirements have not been published.

Townfall takes place on St. Amelia, an isolated island in Scotland. The town is covered by heavy fog and appears abandoned, although KONAMI says it is only seemingly empty. The game is set in the SILENT HILL universe but is described as self-contained, so KONAMI has not presented it as a direct continuation of Silent Hill 2 or Silent Hill f.

The protagonist is Simon Ordell. He is called back to St. Amelia to “put things right,” even though the island is not a place he recognizes. In the February reveal material, Simon arrives with little more than his clothes, an IV bag and a medical wristband bearing his name. He hears voices through a CRTV pocket television and follows the signals into the town while trying to understand his connection to the island and its people.

The June trailer introduces Zoe, an inhabitant of St. Amelia and a nurse from a local family clinic. She calls for Simon to return to the island and asks what he is doing there. KONAMI has confirmed Zoe's role and dialogue, but has not explained her complete history or the full relationship between her, Simon and the town. Screen Burn says the puzzles are designed with the story, so their setup or solutions reveal information about Simon and St. Amelia.

The CRTV and signal-based exploration

The CRTV is a handheld television that replaces the traditional radio function associated with earlier SILENT HILL games. It uses retro technology and unstable audio-visual signals rather than simply producing static when a creature is near.

The CRTV has two confirmed jobs. During encounters, Simon can use it to see through parts of the environment and locate nearby threats. Around town, it receives broadcasts that reveal story fragments and help guide him through some challenges. Raising the CRTV, tuning its signal and interpreting what appears on its display are therefore parts of exploration, not only collectible or cosmetic features.

On PlayStation 5, the CRTV can also use motion controls. The developers describe twisting the device to fine-tune weak signals and improve reception. This feature is tied to handling the object in first person, but the final control options and whether the motion input can be disabled should be checked at launch.

First-person movement and puzzles

Townfall is experienced entirely from Simon's first-person view. Screen Burn says the perspective supports environmental investigation, tactile puzzles and direct use of the CRTV. Players will search for clues in detailed locations, read the environment and solve problems whose setup or solution is tied to the people and history of St. Amelia.

The official description calls these narrative-driven puzzles. Screen Burn says their setup or solutions can explain Simon's situation and reveal information about the town, rather than serving only as separate progression gates. KONAMI has shown fragments of realistic and less conventional puzzles, but it has not published solutions or a complete puzzle list. A walkthrough cannot be written responsibly before the game is released and the final version can be checked.

Exploration moves between ordinary island spaces and the Otherworld. The trailers show a fog-shrouded marina, residential streets and a darker transformed environment. KONAMI has confirmed the locations as part of the revealed material, but has not said how many areas exist, how they connect or whether the player can revisit every location.

Combat, stealth and evasion

Townfall combines combat with strategies that avoid direct fights. The official descriptions mention a limited set of melee and ranged weapons, a peek system and environmental opportunities. Simon can run, distract enemies, hide or attack, depending on the situation.

KONAMI describes a limited set of weapons and tools, while the encounter design combines combat with evasion, hiding and distraction. Choosing when to use force is part of survival. The CRTV can help assess danger, while the peek system allows Simon to inspect a situation without fully exposing himself.

Enemies can dynamically hunt Simon after detecting him. Their senses help them track him, so simply sprinting away is not always a complete solution. Screen Burn's stated encounter design lets the player switch between hiding, distraction, running and fighting when a plan fails. That information confirms the available approaches, but it does not establish a best tactic for every enemy or a full stealth system.

KONAMI has revealed at least one creature stalking Simon in the Otherworld. The official material does not name every enemy or explain their behavior in detail. Players should wait for the final game or more official documentation before treating trailer creatures as a complete roster.

PlayStation 5 features

The PS5 version uses DualSense features to connect exploration and combat to the controller. The developers cite adaptive triggers that can reproduce the feel of firearms and haptic feedback that can represent the heavy impact of a creature's footsteps approaching while Simon hides.

The PS5 trailer also demonstrates motion-controlled CRTV tuning. These features are official platform details, not proof of a performance target or a resolution mode. KONAMI has not yet published a final list of frame-rate modes, display settings, accessibility options or PC specifications.

Release date, platforms and editions

KONAMI's June announcement confirms a September 24, 2026 release on PlayStation 5, Steam and the Epic Games Store. Physical versions are available for PlayStation 5 pre-order, while digital pre-orders cover Standard and Deluxe Editions.

The Standard Edition's early-purchase and pre-order bonuses include two CRTV looks: Rusted and Beach Edition, with Beach Edition listed as a PlayStation 5 exclusive. The Deluxe Edition includes a digital artbook, digital soundtrack, an alternate Simon outfit and those pre-order CRTV bonuses. Digital Deluxe pre-orders include 48-hour early access.

These edition items are cosmetic or bonus materials. They do not confirm extra story chapters, additional areas or different campaign missions. KONAMI has not announced a separate expansion, multiplayer mode or post-launch content plan for Townfall.

What remains unconfirmed

The following details should remain open until KONAMI or Screen Burn publishes them or the launch version can be verified:

  • the game's final PC system requirements and graphics settings;
  • the complete story, ending structure and length;
  • the full enemy, weapon and item lists;
  • the number and layout of St. Amelia areas;
  • difficulty options, save behavior and accessibility features;
  • whether every DualSense and motion feature is optional;
  • post-launch patches, downloadable content or additional modes.

Keeping those gaps visible prevents trailers from being mistaken for a full feature list. The confirmed material is already enough to describe Townfall's premise and core design, but not enough for a walkthrough, best weapon guide or performance verdict.
