Fallout 3 is an open-world role-playing game from Bethesda Game Studios set in the Capital Wasteland, a devastated version of Washington, D.C. The player leaves Vault 101 as the Lone Wanderer and begins searching for their missing father, but the game quickly opens into a wider journey through settlements, vaults, ruins, and underground routes.

Its strongest identity comes from exploration. Radio signals, distant landmarks, and abandoned buildings constantly pull the player away from the main quest. V.A.T.S. adds tactical targeting to real-time combat, while SPECIAL attributes, skills, perks, Karma, and dialogue choices shape the character.

The Game of the Year Edition includes Operation: Anchorage, The Pitt, Broken Steel, Point Lookout, and Mothership Zeta. Broken Steel raises the level cap and lets the game continue after the original ending.
