Elden Ring is an action role-playing game from FromSoftware and Bandai Namco Entertainment, released on February 25, 2022. You play as one of the Tarnished, an exile drawn back to the Lands Between after the Elden Ring's shattering. The goal is to pursue the Elden Lordship, but the game leaves the route, build, and order of many challenges to you.
The Lands Between connects open fields, ruined settlements, caves, catacombs, mines, forts, and large Legacy Dungeons such as Stormveil Castle. You can travel on foot or summon Torrent, use the map to mark discoveries and fast-travel between Sites of Grace, and return to difficult areas later. Exploration is tied to combat and progression: enemies, bosses, hidden paths, and dungeons reward runes, weapons, armor, spells, Ashes of War, crafting materials, and other tools.
Combat is built around stamina, attacks, guarding, dodging, parrying, positioning, and reading enemy patterns. Character development supports many approaches, including melee weapons, shields, bows, sorceries, incantations, stealth, mounted combat, and hybrid builds. Starting classes establish early attributes but do not lock the final build. Spirit Ashes can support solo fights, while online co-op lets other players join exploration and boss battles; invasions and competitive encounters add a separate risk.
The original game is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Shadow of the Erdtree expands the game with a separate region, story, enemies, weapons, and progression systems.
