Michael Malarkey is joining Tracker Season 4 in the recurring role of Adam, a private investigator with a long history with Reenie Greene. CBS describes the new character as handsome, intelligent and sophisticated, with a bad-boy streak just beneath the polished surface.
Adam works for high-end law firms, which places him close to Reenie’s legal world. The two are already old friends when he enters the story, so the show will not need to spend weeks building their connection from nothing.
Adam and Reenie already have chemistry
The official description points to familiar banter between Adam and Reenie, played by Fiona Rene. Their conversations will raise questions about what happened between them before and whether the friendship could become something more.
That history gives Season 4 a new relationship to explore without pulling Reenie away from the cases that define her role. Adam can understand her work, challenge her decisions and enter an investigation without needing a long explanation.
Malarkey is best known for playing Enzo on The Vampire Diaries. He has also appeared in Project Blue Book, Westworld and Law & Order: Organized Crime. Tracker gives him a character who can move between courtroom connections, private investigations and the show’s more dangerous searches.
Tracker returns with a different production base
Season 4 is moving production from Vancouver to Los Angeles. The change brings the series closer to the California setting that often surrounds Colter Shaw’s work, even as individual cases continue to take him across the country.
Justin Hartley returns as Colter, a survivalist who earns reward money by finding missing people and solving cases that others cannot close. Reenie remains one of the people he trusts when an investigation creates legal problems or needs a sharper look at the evidence.
Adam’s arrival can complicate that partnership without turning him into an immediate enemy. He has his own clients, his own methods and a personal connection to Reenie that Colter does not share.
When Tracker Season 4 premieres
Tracker Season 4 premieres Sunday, October 4 at 9:30 p.m. Eastern on CBS. The following week, it moves to its regular Sunday time at 9:00 p.m. beginning October 11.
Episodes will also be available on Paramount+. Exact streaming access can vary by subscription plan and region.
CBS has not revealed which episode will introduce Adam or how many appearances Malarkey will make. The recurring label means he is expected to matter beyond a single case, and the focus on his past with Reenie suggests that his story will grow across the season.
The best addition to a long-running procedural is often someone who changes more than the weekly mystery. Adam can do that immediately: he knows how investigations work, he fits Reenie’s world, and he arrives carrying a question the show has not answered yet.
