The official trailer above introduces The Trap, Netflix’s six-part German psychological thriller, arriving October 13. The limited miniseries releases all six episodes together rather than spacing them across weekly installments. It adapts Melanie Raabe’s 2015 novel Die Falle and follows a writer who believes she has recognized the man who killed her sister.
That writer is Lisa Konrad, played by Friederike Becht. She has not left her home for nearly ten years, after witnessing her sister Anna’s murder. Lisa is now a successful bestselling author, but her life has remained inside the house. When she sees a journalist on television and recognizes him as Anna’s killer, she decides to bring him to her instead of going back out into the world.

Lisa’s invitation puts Robert inside the house
The journalist is Robert Lenzen, played by Hans Löw. Lisa invites him home for an interview, intending to use herself as bait and set a trap once he arrives. The cat-and-mouse setup begins with Lisa’s certainty, while the question of Robert’s guilt remains open.

The novel and the Netflix series
Raabe’s novel and the series share Die Falle as their German title; Netflix uses The Trap in English. The novel’s writer is Linda Conrads, while the series follows Lisa Konrad. Both are writers whose lives narrow after a sister’s murder, and the series names Lisa’s sister Anna and the journalist Robert Lenzen. It adapts Raabe’s 2015 debut novel, retaining its central premise of a writer whose home becomes the setting for a trap.
Raabe’s own description places Linda in a villa by Lake Starnberg and says she has stayed there for eleven years. Netflix describes Lisa’s isolation as nearly a decade. Those are details of the book and series respectively, not reasons to assume every scene will match. Readers can recognize the starting situation without treating the screen version’s character names or timeline as a mistake.
Anna’s murder led Lisa to withdraw from the outside world. Inviting Robert reverses that pattern: rather than return to public life, Lisa brings the suspect into her private space, where she can set the terms of an interview meant to test whether her suspicion is right.

Friederike Becht on facing Hans Löw
Becht described the preparation for the lead confrontation as a prolonged duel:
“Over several weeks, we really staged a duel – a fight my character prepared for meticulously, both mentally and physically.”
— Friederike Becht, on preparing to play Lisa
Becht and Löw lead a cast whose supporting characters connect Lisa’s private life to her writing and the investigation. Matthias Brandt plays publisher Norbert Rudow, and Anna Schudt plays Lisa’s literary agent, Pia. Miriam Ohlmeyer is Sophie, a character in Lisa’s novel. Josephine Thiesen plays Anna, Lisa’s sister, and Malaya Stern Takeda plays Lisa’s assistant, Yuma.

The people around Lisa and Robert
Ursula Strauss appears as Dr. Shelley Anger, Lisa’s therapist. Sesede Terziyan and Michael Klammer play investigators Narges Akbari and Leon Weber. These characters widen the story beyond its central interview: Shelley knows Lisa as a patient, while Akbari and Weber approach the murder as a case. Lisa’s choices at home sit alongside professional relationships and an investigation outside the house.
Isabel Kleefeld wrote and directed the series and serves as its creative producer. She reunites with producers Tom Spiess and Friederich Oetker, and executive producer Oliver Berben, after the team worked together on Netflix’s Dear Child. That series received the International Emmy for TV Movie/Mini-Series. Constantin Film produces The Trap as a limited miniseries, with six episodes planned for a complete release rather than an open-ended season.
The production’s other central credits include cinematographer Martin Langer, production designer Cordula Jedamski, and composers Volker Bertelmann and Ben Winkler. The series builds toward an interview at Lisa’s home, against the history of a murder she has spent years trying to understand. Filming took place in and around Düsseldorf and Cologne.
When and where to watch The Trap
All six episodes arrive worldwide on Netflix October 13, 2026. The release is still ahead, so The Trap is not streaming in full yet. There is no announced weekly wait between these six episodes: Netflix’s plan is to make the complete miniseries available on the same day.
The trailer introduces the suspicion that starts Lisa’s plan; it does not settle Robert’s guilt. That matters when going into the series. Lisa recognizes a face, but inviting its owner into her house means hearing from the person she has already judged. Whether her confidence survives that meeting is something the drama leaves for viewers to find out.
