Jessica Chastain and Amy Ryan are joining Emilia Jones in The Retrievals, an upcoming Netflix drama inspired by a New York Times and Serial Productions podcast about the Yale Fertility Center case. Netflix has named the actors and their characters, but has not set a premiere date.
The three leads play fictional characters, not the real patients or nurse from the podcast. The series draws on the harm caused when a clinic nurse diverted fentanyl meant for patients undergoing egg retrievals. That distinction matters when the show describes a real medical case through a scripted story.
Who plays whom?
Jones plays Gabby Clemente, a bartender and student teacher who begins looking for other women affected after a traumatic procedure. Chastain plays Kaitlyn Langford, a former art historian who becomes a plaintiff after discovering she was also harmed. Ryan plays Carla Russo, a nurse character whose actions leave patients without the pain medication they were supposed to receive.
Who else is involved?
Fabien Frankel has been cast as Ian, Gabby’s older brother, while Will Harrison will play Victor, her husband. Molly Smith Metzler, who created Maid and Sirens, is writing and executive producing the adaptation. Susan Burton, who hosted the source podcast, is among the executive producers.
Netflix has not announced when The Retrievals will premiere. The series is intended for Netflix, but it is not currently available to watch. No episode count, trailer or release window was confirmed in the cast announcement.
