The Pitt won Outstanding Drama Series at the 78th Emmy Awards, giving the HBO Max medical drama the category for the second consecutive year. The Television Academy updated the show’s official record to 38 nominations and 11 Emmys after the result.
The program award completed a six-win 2026 run that included Noah Wyle’s second straight lead-actor victory. The Pitt prevailed over The Diplomat, The Gilded Age, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Paradise, Pluribus, Slow Horses and Your Friends & Neighbors in the final drama race.
The Pitt won six Emmys in 2026
Two of the six wins came during the main ceremony: Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Wyle’s performance as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch. The other four were awarded for casting, guest actor, prosthetic makeup and original music and lyrics.
Ernest Harden Jr. won guest actor for playing Louie Cloverfield in the episode “7:00 A.M.” Gavin Brivik and Andrew Bird won original music and lyrics for the song “Need Someone” from “12:00 P.M.” The casting award went to Cathy Sandrich Gelfond, Erica Berger and Seth Caskey, while Myriam Arougheti led the prosthetic-makeup team recognized for “9:00 P.M.”
The count is six wins from the show’s 25 nominations for its second season. The Academy’s 38-nomination and 11-Emmy totals combine the show’s first two awards cycles, so they should not be read as the result of the 2026 ceremony alone.
Noah Wyle now has four Emmys
Wyle’s official Academy profile now lists four Emmys from ten nominations. Two are acting awards for The Pitt, earned in 2025 and 2026. The other two came as an executive producer when the show won Outstanding Drama Series in those same years.
That makes the 2026 series result a separate fourth award, not part of the lead-actor trophy already counted earlier in the night. Wyle was also nominated this year for directing “12:00 P.M.,” but that award went to Slow Horses and does not enter his win total.
Two seasons produced two drama-series victories
The Pitt first won Outstanding Drama Series in 2025 for its debut season. Repeating in 2026 means every completed season submitted so far has taken the Academy’s top drama prize.
The second-season result recognizes the full producing team credited by the Academy, including executive producers R. Scott Gemmill, John Wells, Wyle, Michael Hissrich, Erin Jontow, Simran Baidwan and Joe Sachs. The award is for the program as a whole rather than any single episode or performance.
The drama field split its biggest awards
The Pitt took series and lead actor, but it did not sweep the televised drama categories. Pluribus won lead actress for Rhea Seehorn and drama writing, Slow Horses won directing, Task earned supporting actor for Tom Pelphrey and The Diplomat won supporting actress for Allison Janney.
That split gives the series victory its correct scale: The Pitt finished the night as the Academy’s top drama and the most-nominated program of the year, while several rivals still converted major individual categories.
The Pitt Season 3 is already confirmed
HBO Max renewed The Pitt for a third season on January 7, before Season 2 debuted. The Emmy result therefore does not determine whether the show will continue; another season was already ordered.
The official renewal announcement did not set a premiere date. Until HBO Max publishes one, the confirmed fact is the renewal itself rather than a specific return day.
