Lilith is tired of being the villain in somebody else’s fairy tale. In Netflix’s animated movie Steps, Cinderella’s so-called evil stepsister takes the Fairy Godmother’s wand and interrupts the royal ball. The new teaser lets Ali Wong’s Lilith tell the story from her own side, and it is a long way from waiting quietly for a glass slipper.

Steps is set in a kingdom called Alouette. Lilith acts with her sister Margot, voiced by Stephanie Hsu, but her big move goes wrong. A schemer named Priscilla takes the throne. To fix what she started, Lilith has to work with Cinderella herself, voiced by Amanda Seyfried.

What changes in this Cinderella story?

The familiar pieces are still here: a ball, a prince, a slipper and a midnight deadline. The movie asks what happens if the stepsisters get more than a few mean lines in someone else’s ending. Lilith and Cinderella end up on a trip through the Screaming Woods, chased by henchmen and biker trolls. The bigger problem is whether the two can learn to trust each other.

The teaser uses bright magic, dark woods and a glass ride that looks anything but safe. Netflix’s images also show Lilith beside a glowing storybook. It is a playful way to introduce someone who knows the old version of the tale and has decided she would like to change the page.

Who is in the voice cast?

Wong plays Lilith, Hsu plays Margot and Seyfried is Cinderella. Nikki Glaser voices Priscilla, the woman who takes advantage of Lilith’s mistake. Daniel Radcliffe plays the prince, Bette Midler voices a Fairy Godmother whose help can backfire, and Young Mazino voices a troll named Gef.

Peter Dinklage voices Roderick, a dangerous man-nanny, while wrestler Damian Priest plays Cracktor. Alyce Tzue and John Ripa direct the film. Amy Poehler, Jane Hartwell and Kim Lessing produce, and Kris Bowers composed the score. Those are confirmed names; the movie itself will show how much time each character gets.

When does Steps come out?

Netflix has set Steps for November 20, 2026. It is an animated feature, not a series, and the announced destination is Netflix. The teaser gives away the trouble that starts the adventure, but it keeps the answer to the sisters’ relationship for the film.

That relationship is what makes the fresh angle worth a look. Turning an old villain into the lead would be a small joke on its own. Sending her on a messy rescue with the person she has been compared with all her life gives Steps a story of its own.
