What pulls Neagley into the investigation?
Neagley is working as a private investigator in Chicago when she learns that a close friend from her past has died in what appears to be a suspicious accident. She follows that lead with the skills she developed in the Army’s 110th Special Investigations Unit. The deeper she goes, the more dangerous the case becomes.
That setup gives the spin-off its own reason to exist. Neagley shares Reacher’s history, but the case starts with someone she personally lost. The official synopsis stops short of naming the culprit or laying out the season’s twists, so the story can be described without spoiling the eight-episode run.
Maria Sten leads a new ensemble
Sten plays Frances Neagley. Greyston Holt appears as Detective Hudson Riley, Adeline Rudolph as Renee Birdwhistle, Jasper Jones as Keno, Matthew Del Negro as Pierce Woodrow and Damon Herriman as Lawrence Cole.
Alan Ritchson guests as Jack Reacher. Prime Video has not described him as a co-lead, so viewers should not expect the show to be another season of Reacher under a new name. The focus stays on Neagley and the people she meets during this investigation.

The spin-off is built around a character Reacher viewers already know, and the new season arrives after the Season 4 finale. Knowing her history with Jack and the 110th adds context. But the new case has its own starting point: a friend’s death in Chicago and Neagley’s decision to investigate it.
Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton created the series and serve as co-showrunners. Lee Child, who created the Reacher novels, is among the executive producers. The announced first Neagley novel, Zero Margin, is due in March 2027; it is separate from this streaming release.
