Matchbox The Movie arrives on Apple TV on October 9, 2026. John Cena plays Sean, a CIA agent who returns to his hometown and finds his childhood friends again. Their reunion turns into an international chase when Sean’s undercover work puts them all in danger.
What is Matchbox The Movie about?
The film takes its name from Mattel’s toy cars, but the characters are adults caught up in an action story. Sean has been away for years. His return pulls Aimee, Crosby, Ted and Charmaine into a mission they never signed up for. The official images show off-road driving, city traffic, a helicopter and the five friends together.

The movie premieres October 9 on Apple TV. Apple’s US page lists a 2-hour, 6-minute runtime. It is rated PG-13 in the United States by the MPA for sequences of violence and action, and language. The October 9 date is a future release, not a film already available to stream.

The trailer shows Sean’s friends being pulled from ordinary life into his mission. Apple has not published the full plot or the ending, so the main things to know before release are the five friends, Sean’s CIA job and the Apple TV premiere date.
