Yuichi Nakamura will voice Soshiro Azami in Kagurabachi, the anime’s official site announced on October 2. The reveal includes a new character visual and a 22-second trailer, introducing the Kamunabi sorcerer ahead of the series’ April 2027 start.

Azami’s official profile supplies a useful reason to remember him: he is one of the few people who knows Chihiro exists, even though that information has been kept secret. He is also a powerful fighter within an organization that matters to the manga’s wider conflict.

Who is Soshiro Azami?

Azami belongs to the Kamunabi. The official character description emphasizes his exceptional physical strength and the heavy blows he can deliver, calling him one of the organization’s most formidable members. It does not give a full account of his past or explain what he will do when he meets Chihiro in the anime.

His new visual puts him in a white short-sleeved shirt over dark striped sleeves, with dark hair falling across one eye. The blue character artwork names both Azami and Nakamura. The trailer builds on that design with close-ups, a profile-style graphic and the character’s name, rather than presenting a complete fight from an episode.

That distinction is worth keeping in mind when watching the preview: this is a character introduction, not an episode excerpt. It shows how the anime presents Azami, but it does not establish an episode number or reveal his whole place in the story.

Nakamura read the manga for his audition

In the cast comment published with the announcement, Nakamura says he started reading Kagurabachi when he auditioned. He then continued through all the volumes available because he wanted to know what happened next. His response was not limited to the character he was trying out for.

“I felt like it really embodied the recent ‘spirit of Jump.’”

Nakamura also says he is looking forward to seeing the manga’s memorable scenes animated. The comment does not single out one Azami scene or announce a change to the adaptation. It is his response to the source material, alongside confirmation of his casting.

Who’s who in Kagurabachi

Why Chihiro’s identity matters

The story begins with Chihiro Rokuhira training under his father, the swordsmith Kunishige. Their life is destroyed by an attack from the sorcerer organization Hishaku, which takes six Enchanted Blades. Chihiro carries the seventh blade, Enten, into his search for revenge.

These are not ordinary stolen swords. The anime’s official premise describes them as weapons powerful enough to affect the nation’s future. Azami knowing about Chihiro therefore gives him information about a young man carrying one of those blades. The new profile does not explain whether that knowledge will help Chihiro or make his journey more difficult.

The Kamunabi also appears in creator Takeru Hokazono’s discussion of the manga. In a MANGA Plus interview, Hokazono picked the sequence leading from Sojo’s bathhouse scene to the confrontation with the organization as one of his favorites. That is a comment about the original manga, not confirmation that this short preview adapts that sequence.

Azami had already come up at Anime NYC

At August’s Anime NYC panel, producer Kenta Suzuki named Azami among the characters he was excited for viewers to encounter after the opening preview. The event screened the first 20 minutes of Episode 1. Suzuki’s comments anticipated later character appearances without assigning Azami an episode.

The new announcement now confirms who will play him. Cypic produces the anime, with Tetsuya Takeuchi directing and Keigo Sasaki handling character design. Crunchyroll has confirmed an April 2027 simulcast alongside the Japanese broadcast, though the announcement does not list territories or an exact premiere day.
