Grand Theft Auto VI was already the most anticipated game in the industry. Now Take-Two says the number of people paying for it early has gone beyond anything the company expected.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick described GTA 6 preorders as "unprecedented and astonishing" while discussing the publisher's latest financial results. He did not share a total, so there is still no confirmed number of copies sold before launch. What the company is saying is clear enough: demand is running far ahead of its usual releases.
Take-Two Is Keeping the Actual Number Private
The comments came as Take-Two reported a strong quarter and answered questions about the biggest game on its schedule. Zelnick said preorder activity was unusual across the industry, not only for Rockstar Games. That is a major claim from a company that also owns NBA 2K, Borderlands, BioShock, and several other established series.
There is one limit to the announcement. Take-Two has not released the number of GTA 6 preorders, the split between physical and digital copies, or the most popular edition. Without those details, nobody outside the company can calculate how many players have already paid.
Zelnick also acknowledged that a preorder can be canceled. The total is a useful sign of interest, but it does not guarantee the same number of launch sales. Some customers may change editions, cancel, or wait for reviews before making a final choice.
The $1.39 Billion Figure Is Not GTA 6 Preorder Revenue
A $1.39 billion number has appeared beside this story in several posts. It needs context. That was Take-Two's company-wide revenue for the quarter, covering

its full business. It was not a confirmed GTA 6 preorder total.
GTA Online, NBA 2K, mobile games, catalog sales, and other products all contribute to Take-Two's results. Using the entire quarterly figure as GTA 6 money would give readers the wrong impression. The publisher has not said how much preorder revenue came from the game.
The financial report still matters because it shows that Take-Two is entering the GTA 6 launch from a strong position. The company does not need to rush out an exact number to prove that interest is high. It has trailers with enormous viewing figures, years of discussion, and now an executive publicly saying preorders have passed internal expectations.
