Taraji P. Henson is back in a Netflix film, this time as a Chicago bakery owner. The streamer has released the first photos from Give Me Some Sugah and confirmed that the movie will premiere on December 16, 2026. Henson plays Lenore Lindsey, whose life changes after an unexpected discovery.
The film is inspired by the real Lenore Lindsey, whose story drew attention online in November 2024. Netflix says its fictionalized story follows Lenore as she takes a chance on opening the bakery she has wanted for years. The company has not explained the discovery in detail, so the photos are our clearest look so far at the place where much of her story unfolds.
What do the new photos show?
One image shows Henson working at a kitchen counter, flour in the air and a stand mixer beside her. Another puts Lenore at a small table with two other people in the cafe. There are also scenes of women making dough, a conversation inside a church and a greeting at the bakery counter. The pictures give us the bakery, its staff and the community around it without revealing the film’s big turn.
Henson is the lead, and Joey Bada$$ is also in the cast. Netflix has not identified his character in its first-look announcement. The supporting cast includes Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor as Angie, Russell Hornsby as Robert, Alexis Louder as Megan, Semaj Prather as Mayson and Arischa Conner as Vera. Angela Davis plays Yvette, Caroline Avery Granger plays Gabriella, director Tasha Smith also appears as Toni, and producer DeVon Franklin plays Eric.
Who made Give Me Some Sugah?
Tasha Smith directed the movie from a script by Randy Brown. Franklin and Tyler Perry produced it. This is the second film in their partnership with Netflix, following Ruth & Boaz. Henson’s previous Netflix film, Straw, premiered in 2025. The two films are separate stories, though both place her at the center of a drama about a woman under pressure.
Netflix says production began in Atlanta. Its title page lists a 1-hour, 37-minute runtime. The first-look announcement does not include a trailer or a theatrical release. For now, December 16 is the date to watch for the Netflix premiere.
