Blizzard and Netflix are developing a new animated series set in the world of Diablo. Blizzard president Johanna Faries announced the project during the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony on September 12.
The series does not have a public title or release date. Blizzard also has not revealed its cast, writers, animation studio, episode count, or story.
What did Blizzard announce?
The announcement was brief: Diablo is the first project in a new push to bring Blizzard’s game worlds to other screens. The company confirmed that the show is animated and in development with Netflix, but it did not show a trailer or name any characters.
Blizzard’s wording leaves the timeline open. “In development” means work has started; it does not tell us when production will finish or when Netflix plans to release it.

What could the Diablo series be about?
Blizzard only said the series is set in the world of Diablo. It could adapt one of the games, follow a known character, or tell a separate story in Sanctuary. None of those options has been confirmed.
Sanctuary is the human world caught between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells. The games follow different heroes as they fight demons including Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto. That history gives the show room to begin with a new group of characters without retelling an entire game.

Are Warcraft and Overwatch shows coming too?
No. Faries told Warcraft and Overwatch fans that discussions are happening, but Blizzard did not announce a series or movie for either franchise. Diablo is the only Netflix project confirmed during the opening ceremony.
The next useful update will be a title, creative team, story description, or release window. Until Blizzard or Netflix shares one of those, the confirmed news is simple: Diablo is becoming an animated series, and it is being made for Netflix. Which part of Diablo should the show adapt first?
