After 12 years away from feature directing, Chris Rock is back behind the camera with A24’s Misty Green. He told Variety that writing and directing now feel like a better fit than chasing the next acting job.

Rock said he likes the discipline and contained nature of directing and writing. Acting as a main hustle, by comparison, can mean campaigning for the next job.
He first imagined making Misty Green without appearing in it, then decided at the last minute to act in the film, too. The story follows Misty, a once-famous actress looking for work while trying to cover care for her brother, Jordan.
Rock said Rosalind Eleazar flew herself from London for a 40-minute audition. He said she blew the team away and was the strongest choice by a wide margin. Variety describes her as the title character; A24 lists Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, Anna Kendrick and Rock among the cast.
